Hey guys! I'm back….

Notice I didn't say AmigaOne 500, which I also have… I just bought an original (or so the box says, still has the $697 sticker on it, will post pics later) Amiga 500, but currently have no monitor to hook it up to. It DOES have an RGB to S-Video cable, but of course none of my existing TVs have an SiVideo input. So I tried hooking it up via RCA cables.

It boots up with no issues, but for one: the video. I don't thin it's a sync problem, because I can't see it. It's monochrome (duh! the video's mono) and flickers intermittently. It's just not displaying.

Has anyone else had a problem with the composite video? Would an S-Video to HDMI converter work on modern TVs, or should I get a 1080/1084 RGB monitor that I know will work? I just realized something. I don't know if this is an NTSC or PAL system, but that shouldn't … scratch that. It's NTSC. But as I started to say, that shouldn't matter. I had a PAL Amiga 1200 that displayed flawlessly on composite video.

I feel ashamed of myself. I've owned Amigas since 1986, and at some point had several at once. This should be simple to fix without spending any more money (which I'm of course going to do ANYway but you know what I mean)

Stan the Amiga Man

@StantheAmigaMan

I use this as a modern day solution for my aging Amiga models:

Scart to HDMI Upscaler

I also bought a readily available Amiga 23-pin RGB to Scart connector with audio. The setup works great and I can use it on any Amiga model that has the standard RGB port on my LG OLED 55" TV :)

I suggest this piece of hardware add-on.

@StantheAmigaMan

LCD TVs and non-interlace video is a bit of an issue (it's technically not valid PAL/NTSC unless it's interlaced), this could be the cause of your problems. A CRT TV wouldn't care, as format validation costs more work than just displaying it on a CRT.

Me, I prefer a 1084 and a CRT TV for these things

I recall that my A500+ was limited to black and white from the composite output.

@StantheAmigaMan

If you're talking about the RCA connector on the back, it's monochrome only. No chrominance, no burst.

A few RGB Output-Scart + sound works in old TV:s and a monitor+cable (Commodore1084 style Philips works)
Then Scart to a n LCD and PIV-VGA-

Nice box if Antenna Ready or HD Ready TV:s stop working I'll get this and put via HDMI. (Still has Scart) Wait state mode on in the TV if the HD is the only choice over here in a few years-

Have to choose "Source" from the tv to get the Amiga channel from one.

LOL. You could also try this. A520HD. But at $79 a bit pricey unless you did it yourself.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-GGLABS-A520HD-Amiga-500-600-1200-2000-3000-4000-RGB-to-YPbPr-HDTV-converter-/401111069751

What would be good is an RGB to HDMI if one exists. Being you are using ECS/OCS what would be perfect is a digital RGB to HDMI converter with no signal loss. Is anyone making this I wonder? Since early Amigas has digital RGB output. 4 bit nevertheless but digital. Don't know if this was/could be upgraded to 8-bit when AGA came out.

Amiga to HDMI here:

Okay both pricey. Or:

Well, I got myself an S-Video/composite to HDMI converter and it works great! Although, I had to resort to the composite video. The RGB to S-Video cable I have is too big!!! So this is a temporary solution until I get a 1080 or 1084 monitor. But I can boot and at least bone up on my Leather Goddesses of… err, never mind :D

@StantheAmigaMan

Does the big cable have any signal loss? If not I'd go for it. And give your Amiga that extra quality.

You could get one of those cheap scan doublers off eBay but then they are fiddly to set up. You need a power supply and case. And Amiga RGB input cable.

Okay you can go back to your leather now.

@Hypex
when I say it's too big, I mean it… I;ve got a pic of the alleged s-video end but it won't fit any modern s-video female connector I've ever seen. I can't figure out how to post a picture without putting it somewhere online and linking to it.

I'm on the market for a 1080 monitor before too long :D So it's all good!
