| Hi everyone,
I have two A1200's and this Logitech wireless mouse..
Logitech MX1000 Laser Wireless Mouse.. looks like this
http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/j9MAAOSw6kxXHoZf/s-l1600.jpg
interetsingly the mous works with my A1200 which appens to have WB 3.1 roms.. while the other unit that happens to have 3.0 roms.. doesn't.
but talking with someone.. they were saying that the WB version probably isn't the issue, so I'm wondering what else it could be?
I need it to work because in my studio, one of the amigas is central (the 3.1 unit) but i have the 2nd one kinda far away. so the wireless mouse would be awesome to have.
Any tips or advice would be much appreciated!
Sincerely, Caleb |

| Quick update.
I installed the 3.1 rom and yea that didn't help (though it did fix that annoying old issue of having to reboot the amiga after HD fully woke up.. :)
is there some driver that i can get off my other system? there must be some OS file / driver file that i have in there that's missing from the other.
Thanks! Caleb

More information please:
Other than the ROM difference are the two A1200's otherwise identical in spec? How are you connecting the MX1000 receiver to the Amiga? Have you tested other wired and/or wireless mouses on both units?

They are "pretty much" identical machines.. but no i can't vouch for every lib / driver / etc in each system..
i am using a PS/2 to serial adapter. This will work with the A1200 that has trouble with the wireless version.. so I know the PS/2 adapter works fine. it works fine with a PS/2 optical wired mouse without trouble.
I took the same adapter and mouse to the A1200 that does work and yea.. it works :)
very strange.

The power profile of a wired PS/2 mouse is different to that of a PS/2 transiever. Please check the motherboard revisions: It may be a CIA thing. Also it wouldn't hurt trying to swap around the power supplies. _________________ All the way, with 68k |

you know that is a good idea.. so the power supplies ARE different in a significant way.. the one that works properly is a US power supply and I'm in the US. The other power supply is a euro power supply going through an AC converter.. from 110 to 220.. perhaps it is a power issue.
I don't know how to check mother board versions.. I believe both of them are commodore models, not like post commodore versions.
CIA?
Thanks! Caleb |

| @227 Even with Commodore, from 1992 to 1993 the A1200 had like four different revisions. It's printed right on the motherboard near the Zorro (trap door) expansion connector. You can't miss it.
The CIA or rather the pair of CIAs (odd and even) in today's lingo would be part of the Southbridge. They control general IO e.g. disks, USB, serial and Parallel ports, etc.

awesome thanks for the insight. i'll try swapping power supplies.. i know they are compatible.. because i'm actually using the original US PSU with the nicer (and likely newer) A1200.
If the PSU swap doesn't fix it.. i'm going to have to accept it's the likely the MB issue you mention and yea just unfortunate subtle difference in models. I'll report back once I've done the switch. |

You said, PS/2 to serial, what kind of serial? Does it plug into the Amiga serial port? Or a mouse port? If a mouse port is it custom made for Amiga? |

I'm sorry I'm bad at mixing up the ports.. I mean the atari 2600 looking ports used for mouse / joysticks.. not "serial" as in 25pin..
i own two ps/2 to amiga mouse port adapters.. both work with this amiga with a ps/2 compatible optical mouse.. it's only the wireless one that fails.
I have the power supply plugged in so the mouse charges.. so it's not like the ps/2 port is expected to power the wireless transmitter.. but yea something ain't jiving.. i tried to peek at the MB revision but it's not visible and it has that annoying metal catch around the system.. i don't know what else could be the cause at this point. |

Okay so yes so the mouse port. Or joystick port. Since they work the same.
The picture has a USB plug but are your mouse devices straight to PS/2?
Had you a USB to PS/2 adaptor in between then that could have caused an issue as not all USB mice are PS/2 compatible.
Does a normal mouse work fine? Last edited by Hypex on 01-May-2016 at 04:27 PM.

yea these particular units have a ps/2 AND usb adapter at the end. They were made around that time when people were likely to need either one.
what i have is a ps/2 to amiga joystick port adapter. i have two technically since i have the two amiga 1200s.. and using the identical adapter on both machines.. one (let's call it the "new one") works, while the other (the "old one") doesn't.
Both work fine with a ps/2 compatible optical mouse (wired) but it's the old one that fails to work. both have
Also I did try swapping power supplies in case the Euro/Converter was a problem.. but using the US PSU didn't make the old one work with the wireless mouse. |

Did you find the revision for the "older" A1200 board?
I can't imagine why an Amiga adaptor would fail given a wired PS/2 mouse works fine. Since all it does is convert signals to Amiga mouse format. Seems the wireless mouse adaptor has issues.
Does it also fail on the early startup screen? And it's plugged into the mouse port LOL? |

I couldn't find it without cracking it open and i just didn't want to do that. I still wasn't sure where to look. can anyone show me a screenshot or something to know exactly where to look?
I just don't want to poke around the hardware and do more harm than good! :)
I just don't get why the exact same adapter / mouse transmitter works on one amiga and not the other.. maybe something wrong with the amiga.. but strange because it DOES work with a wired ps/2 mouse..
never fails.. it just seems to not see it.. it's like no mouse is connected.. I do have a usb to mouse adapter i might try.. but that never worked with my wired mice which is why i haven't given it much thought.. but it's something to try none the less.

You will see it as you lift the keyboard (and shielding if it's still present). In the image you will see that this particular A1200 motherboard is a Rev 1D.1

awesome thanks for showing that, it's a big help to know where to focus my probing! :)
yea the "old amiga" has the shielding still. the "new amiga" doesn't but both are closed up so i'll have to open them up to see.
The shielding I hope I can remove safely. it looks like it's held down by a series of pent metal flaps. I'll proceed with caution.

Possibly not enough space but would be good if you could stick a mobile phone in the slot and take a happy snap of the revision. |

yea i think its really tight in there. i JUST closed my "old amiga" after it being pretty much completely lose on top the other day.. had to go to a hardware store and find some screws that would work because i'd long lost the ones it came with..

A loose lid would make it easier to look under. Yeah I hate replacing those screws. I could never find a perfect fit from my local hardware shop. A local computer shop selling screws would have suited better. Probably. |

it's been a loose lid for like the last 20 years.. till the day before i found out i need to look at the motherboard.. :) I haven't cracked it open yet.. haven't had any time to get down to the studio and work on it.. but i should soon. |
