@Razzberry

The X1000 does not have built-in wireless internet, it has an ethernet port that so far is not supported by OS4.1 (it does work fine with Linux). As far as I've heard the X5000 will have an ethernet port rather than built-in wireless internet.

Could you provide more details if you did this with a pci card. Is there a youtube video on installing the hardware.I saw Epsilons blog and he said he would update with more instruction and photos but has not updated his blog on that subject in a long time.I now he is busy and might have forgotten to do it.
Thanks.

@Severin

I have one of those.
I have never been able to get it to work, so I used a different (but similar) device from another manufacturer.

This type of wireless.network adapter is kind of neat as the computer isn't even aware its there.
It is just like using a direct hardwIred connection (albiet slower).

BTW - Anyone that wants to have my little blue thingy can have it for the cost of postage.
All my hardware is now connected directly to my router's ethernet ports or uses cards (or dongles) with supported drivers.

Damn, not recieved mine yet, I had only just ordered it. I hope yours was just a duff one so I don't have to muck about returning and replacing mine. I only wanted something cheap to use at the recursion show this year.

@Severin

I didn't test it under OS4, just under MorphOS.
It works on Windows machines AND I may not have had enough patience in troubleshooting it.

Don't get discouraged.
I used a similar device for years attached to an iBook.
Its a good solution.

@Razzberry

You can use a PCI wireless network card with Atheros5000 or Prism2 Chip. The drivers are here: http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?function=browse&cat=driver/network

You can use open source LinkSys WRT54G configured like Wifi Client.

LOL. I didn't know my X1000 had wireless internet. I haven't got mine working yet. What is needed? I think you answered your own question. Hardware and and software!

I doubt the X5000 will have wireless. OS4 doesn't yet have the software infrastructure to support wireless. It wouldn't know what it is. To my knowledge it is all third party software used within a limited hardware subset.

@iggy

Did you try turning it off and on again? Sorry that was in my head, what I meant was, did you try setting it up with Firefox?

From the reviews it looks like it must be setup from a PC using software on mini CD. Seems over complicated to me. Why not just use DHCP over Ethernet setup and configure with web interface?

I have a different one, calls it self LB-Link, that I can only get to work with Firefox. But I find it's buggy. Doesn't always work over Ethernet. Only been able to configure over wireless. Acts flaky, sometimes works, other times hard reboot it. And doesn't maintain list of SSIDs. Why did I buy two!?

My X1000 has WIFI!!! Got the little purple box to work although I had to configure it on my droidbox then plug it into the X1000

One thing I did do was turn off the repeater function, the bottom tickbox that ghosts the secondary SSID box.

The big problem is the configuration pages do not work with amiga browsers.

Edit: typos

@Severin

Did you configure it with Firefox?

So none of the browsers worked? I got mine to work from Timberwolf. But that is a different product.

At the start I could't get mine to budge. I got two so when one couldn't even connect to to the other over an open network I knew something was wrong. After three weeks with tech support I found out accidently it only worked with Firefox.

@Hypex

Yes I used firefox. It should also work with Internet Expander as that's what they say to use in what passes for a manual but thankfully I don't have acess to that heap of nastyness.

Still working fine, sets itself up quick enough to be ready and waiting on a cold boot.

I wish companies would stop following M$'s design plan of "If you can't make it good make it look good" and simply "make it good" There's nothing in their GUI the couldn't be done in HTML 4.1 and then would work with every browser.

Cool.
Never thought of that.
After configuration it worked with Timberwolf?
What about other browsers?

BTW - My offer for mine is now resended.

@broadblues

Sorry, the latter.
Spell checking failed me.

BTW - "for an american"?
If you think we use phrases oddly now, wait for future generations, as we have now dumbed down our SAT vocabulary requirments.
AND there has been a huge influx of foriegn students at my State's colleges and universities.
So...in the future...Chinese speaking english like us, Indians speaking english like us, etc.
Scary thought, eh?

Edit - Ur...wait, um that was specific to me.
A little slow on the uptake on that one.
Not sure that you can really blame me for the difficult verbage.
English has so many words, with so many alternatives, that it is a very flexible language.

In the future I will attempt to use the precise kind of phrasing my German friends do.
