I've been playing with Blender 2.73 in Windows. It has a very steep learning curve. Thanks to some tutorials on Youtube, I'm finally starting to grasp the basics. I thought I'd see how it translates to Blender for 2.54 for OS4. I have OS 4.1 FE with all updates. None of the little icons are showing up in the Blender interface, just blank white boxes. I'm wondering what was the last version of OS4.1 that Blender worked with. Anybody know what's going on?

I'm using a mostly unmodified micro. I will try it with my A1-500 when I get a chance.

latest version can be found on Andy website : http://www.broad.ology.org.uk/amiga/blender/

it is most probably the same as the one found on OS4depot.

On a micro you efectivley have an R700 gfx IIRC so youi need to enable the graphics.library work arround for a missing feature in the W3D driver.

Simple add -G to your command line in the blender start up script.

On my SAM the startup script is simply

changetaskpri -1
bldyn -MNBlender -W

and I have a screen named blender in Prefs/screens.

so you would need to modify this to:

changetaskpri -1
bldyn -MNBlender -W -G

@broadblues

PS Compared with the fully working version, the graphics.library blitted icons will be a bit more 'contrasty'

Added -G to the script and now my micro is working. Thanks.

On my A1-500 / SAM EX I'm getting a message that says "Couldn't create miniGL context. ERROR: Unable to open Blender window". The miniGL I'm using is 2.2. Incidentally AmiUpdate reverted the version of miniGL from 2.5 to 2.2. It does the same thing with both versions.

What gfx card do you have? Failure to create MiniGL context usualy means no underlying warp3D.

Don't know that should happen AmiUpdate normally does version chack before ofering an update, but there 2.20 on os4depot

http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=driver/graphics/minigl.lha

Won't help if you have no W3D though.

If your card is not supported you can try WaZp3D but it's bit glictchy and definietly slow.

I think it's a Radeon 3450. I'm thinking of getting a new card anyway. I guess you know the built-in graphics are limited to 16-bits.

The 3450 does not support W3D you will will still need to install wazp3d

If you want real warp3d you will need a southern islands chipset card and buy w3d from Amigakit

Quote from the docs:

Requirements
------------

- AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition or newer
- A supported graphics card:
- Radeon HD 7750-7970 series graphics card (excluding the Radeon HD 7790)
- Radeon R7 250X/265
- Radeon R9 270/270X/280/280X
- IMPORTANT: Please use a graphics card with GDDR RAM; cards with DDR3 RAM
have been reported as not working on AmigaOS

With Wazp3D I can't mark a seam. Without marking a seam I don't have any control over UV unwrapping. Glitch? With the standard warp3D I can mark a seam. Pretty odd thing. Is there some setting in wazp3D prefs?

I thought I would try to get some advice before buying a new graphics card. The SAM 460 ex / A1-500 only has two slots: 1 pci slot and right next to it 1 pci-e slot. The A1-500 comes with a hard drive interface card in the pci slot. There are two built-in SATA connections on the motherboard, so the interface card is not strictly necessary, although I've never been able to get the SSD HD that came with the computer to work with the internal SATA connector. I found a couple of radeon 7750 cards on Amazon. One is a VisionTek card. It's low profile with 1 GB GDDR5 RAM. The other one is a big flat one. It's a XFX AMD Radeon 7750 with 1GB GDDR5 RAM. The advantage of this one is it is thin enough to fit. All the other cards I saw that fit the specifications (I suppose they're newer) take up two slots and they wouldn't fit without removing the HD interface card. So the question is, would a 7750 work okay or should I get one of the other cards and remove the HD card?

In Wazp3D archive there is a prefs file intended for Blender :
Wazp3D/cfg-os4/Wazp3D.cfg-blender
rename it as Wazp3D.cfg and put it in Blender directory (where blender binary is)

If it dont works with this config nothing more can be done...

@thellier

Blender comes with a wazp3D.cfg file. It could be the same one. It doesn't work. However on my micro the original warp3D that came with OS4 works, but you can't render. As far as I know you can edit all you want. But if you want to render you need wazp3D. So I will use my micro and wait for a new graphics card for my SAM ex. Hopefully then everything will get straightened out. I guess everybody knows that the micro doesn't support graphics card upgrades.

No, it doesn't.

If I understand correctly, the moment you run a Warp3D based program with WaZp3D installed a config file is created if one doesn't laready exist, so you need to copy over the one from the wazp3d archive, before you start blender.

In terms of why it doesn't work, it may be either that it is making the seem / cut but not rendering the highlight, or it might be the detection of the edge you are marking isn't working. I would the former would be more likely as other features need edge detection do work IIRC but it's very hard to say precisely, with adding some debug into blender. I've no time for that at the moment.

I'll try copying the config file again. As for creating seams, it looks like it actually does create the seam but you can't see it. Something I've been doing wrong was before you unwrap the UV, you have to select all the faces you want to unwrap. If you don't select them you don't get anything. I often forget that step. I can live with invisible seams for now. Like I said before, I hope a new graphics card and driver fixes some of the problems I've been having. Thanks.

If there is room in your case you could use one of these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Motherboard-Right-Angle-32Bit-Adapter/dp/B00OK674Z4
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rightward-Expansion-Desktop-mini-ITX-Rackmount/dp/B00C91PBJI

to mount the hard drive controller sideways so you can fit a bigger gfx card or use a flexible ribbon cable extender like:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/XINTE-Flexible-Extender-Extension-Increase/dp/B00HQBJWP0/
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Waltzmart-Flexible-Female-Extender-Extension/dp/B00AQU96SG

So I got my new graphics card today. It is an XFX Ami 7750. It's very flat with a metal cover that I think they call a shroud (sort of creepy) so it easily fits in the space. It has a big fan that looks 3 or 4 inches across. It is very quiet. I'm really pretty thrilled with it. I got it from ebay. I went to AmiStore and updated my RadeonHD driver from ver 1.2 to ver 1.7 for free. I bought the Warp3D driver from AmiStore. After I got all this installed, the difference in Blender is amazing. One place to really see the difference is the node editor. There are nodes that you can grab with the mouse and drag. With Wazp3D, it's so slow that you'd just leave the node behind and lose it. Or you could move the mouse r-e-a-l-l-y slow and the node would move in jerks. Now it follows the mouse like it should. I know there are faster graphics cards, but this one is such an improvement it's like night and day. All the problems I've had with Blender seemed to be fixed.

I've been happy with my Radeon 7750 (for a few weeks). But when I bought the Enhancer package, which has a 2.x (2.4?) Radeon driver, I don't get a picture. I assume the 7750 is incompatible with any 2.0 or higher Radeon driver. Before I buy another graphics card I should find out for sure. Some related information: I succeeded in installing a HD on the onboard SATA2 port, so I don't need the Sii 3512 and I removed it for now. So the width of the card isn't a problem anymore. I can probably physically fit any graphics card in the computer now. I'm thinking of an R9 270 if I can find one. Anyway, is a 7750 incompatible with the latest Radeon driver?
