this just pop up in a search I was doing about the "leaked" unofficial Mac mini port of AmigaOS4.0 back in 2005. it ran, but had a lot of unfinished drivers and support, now that its dated and OS4.0 is pretty much out of date and wounder if Hyperion would consider releasing say the

"AmigaOS4.X Unsupported Devices Edition"

that would maybe come with the incomplete ports of say AmigaOS 4.x (what ever version it got up to) for say Mac Mini and maybe even release the AmigaOS4 port that they got made for that PPC laptop (to what ever point they got to).

Hyperion could state clearly that these are unsupported and half finished ports of AmigaOS4.x for these devices. But at least have them out there for the community to maybe look over and play with. it would also make a bit of money for them.

Again I would also like to being up the idea of a Emulated version coming out, with maybe co-operation with Cloanto on just a pre-setup emulated version of AmigaOs4.1 for x86 platforms, these are just ideas I throw out there for Hyperion to make a bit more money.

whats everyone else thought on the idea?

"OS4 The Even Less Useful Edition", ah yeah...
We don't need that.

If Hyperion would support PPC Mac hardware, it would have both positive and negative results. On the positive side, they would sell many copies of OS4.x to people who would buy inexpensive used Macs. it would be an influx of money that could be spent on future OS development. On the negative side, Hyperion would be cutting the throat of hardware partners Acube and A-Eon. In addition, used PPC Macs are not necessarily the best roadmap for the future.

A cut down version can already be achieved by running OS4.1FE Classic on WinUAE.

I'd rather see a "AmigaOS4.X Supported Devices Edition" that has a device driver for the builtin X1000 ethernet, a new printer device that works with all printers, drivers for more USB devices etc. etc.

Support for Z3 RAM in Classic version would be far more useful.

I wouldn't pay for an unfinished version, however I wouldn't mind if the presumably unfinished Limebook version gets released freely.

Nothing to gain for keeping it unreleased, Hyperion could only supply the essential Limebook specific files promting the user to get the rest of OS4 from another commecial release.

Same goes for the IBM e-LAP version, both would be a nice present to toy with.

These devices would be rare... As far as I know, there is only one still in existence.

I would go for the full support. Why in earth there are so many things half-way today?

eg. TimberWolf etc.

My intension is perfection.

It works or it does not. Period.

So Sorry about my older "rant's". In my job there is no half way so Perfect OS 4,2 Please.

As tempting as those other options are I had to go with pancakes; They're fricken delicious, they're compatible with my mouth, and I know when I order them they'll arrive within minutes.

In all honesty though, AmigaOS 4.x needs to be removed from Hyperion's control. The way they treat it you'd think the launch codes for the world's nuclear arsenal is in the source code.

I have only seen Kickstart screen on the Limebook so I'd assume the port never got to the stage of booting to Workbench before it got canned. That makes it more useless than the leaked Mac Mini files.
