If you are using the built in IDE connector of the you Amiga then I believe the limit to be 8GB, but even with this the boot partition must not be any more than 4GB as a ROM patch must be loaded in order to use larger partitions. |

From what I can remember the SYS: partition shall not be any bigger than 2GB. Then the rest of the HD is up to what version of AOS 3.x you're using. The controller shouldn't matter. |

Boot partition must be under 2GB and within the first 4gb of the drive. If you use SFS for your partitions you can have partitions upto 127.999GB, I used to use 120GB. Check the 68k SFS specs for the biggest drive you can use, I wouldn't consider using anything over 750GB but to be honest on an OS3.x system 250GB is probably far more than you'll ever need. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

| @g01df1sh,
OS3.9 can have 4GB boot partition, But why? 500MB should hold every OS patch available, more like 200MB. The rest just partition out for work, games, media, etc.
This works for SCSI, don't know IDE.

Same thoughts that there was a limit of 4Gb partition depending on the filesystem but there should not be any size limit in whole.
PFS works great and all these SFS FFS JFX...
4GB is like space in Amigaworld.
Well for todays pictures it's different times.
GB is so cheap todays.

I suppose it's possible to have the boot partition beyond the 2GB barrier once the kickstart 3.x roms from Amikit.. |

| @Amigo1,
New HD support started maybe with 3.5 but for sure 3.9. Otherwise the patch is needed to go up to 4GB. May or may not need a soft reset on cold start.

There's a very comprehensive guide here that lists all the common devices, filesystems, patches and their limitations. Well worth setting as a bookmark, and maybe saving the table as an image for future reference.
Short answer though: 128GB is the largest hard drive size you can use with OS3.5/3.9 using the standard drivers and filesystems they come with. First partition needs to be fully within the first 4GB, the rest of the drive can be partitioned any way you like. _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |
