Need to source (or build) a A2000 to BNC (Sony PVM) RGB cable

Hey folks,

My A2000's 1084S died not long ago and I've ordered a Sony 14-inch PVM with BNC RGB inputs (R+G+B+External Sync) to replace it, as I want to also use it with a C64 that I am about to convert to PAL.

It arrives tomorrow and I want to get it in use on the Amiga soon.

I can't find any pre-made 23-pin to BNC RGB cables, and I see people that have spent months looking before finally building one. Looking around, I am starting to feel like I need to build one.

I have a dead 1084S with a (I believe) fixed cable attached to work with. I can harvest the cable, but what do I need additionally. Is there a guide or any experience someone can cite that has done this? Should find a 23-pin to HD-15 and try to go from that more common VGA connector to BNC? Would such a pre-made cable even work?

I don't want to sit here for months with this superb monitor (that wasn't cheap) and my Amiga 2000 unable to attach to it (monochrome RCA video on the A2000, aside).

I'd appreciate any help, advice here. Thanks.

@blakespot

firsat question. Why a CRT? any lcd tv with rgb/s/composite input would do. Although it's much easier in europe as we have scart connectors.

I assume the sony uses analog so you need to connect:

pin 3 - red
pin 4 - green
pin 5 - blue

Depending what sync it wants you need to connect on of:

pin 10 - composite sync
pin 11 - horizontal sync
pin 12 - vertical sync

pins 16 to 20 are ground

personally I would buy any BNC lead to cut up, a small vero board and a plastic box to mount it in and a couple of grommits.

cut your mointor cable, find the wires you want. solder to one end of the vero board (after drilling the box, fitting a grommit and feeding the cable through)
do the same for the other end using the bnc cables.

Amiga video pin out table is HERE

If you want to do it the easy and cheaper way just get some heat shrink tubing, slide it on a cable, solder the joint, slide tubing over joint and apply heat (a lighter will do), for a neater finish get bigger heat shrink tubing that will cover all the joints when finished. but remember to twist and test all the wires before soldering anything.

Because there is no smooth scroll on an Amiga with a scan doubled output -- not glass smooth. There can't be, due to the scan doubler's buffering. To see the Amiga do a perfect 50hz scroll, it's worth a CRT purchase.

Thanks for the info.

Answering my own question for others that end up here, later.

I did it with two cables: Amiga 23-pin RGB to SCART and then (female) SCART to BNC w/ external sync breakout.

Works perfectly.

Amiga RGB to Sony PVM (via SCART)

@blakespot

The SCART -> RGB cable link is no longer valid. Is this the same cable?
