350w is about the top of the range, better to use a 250 if you can find one. classics use so little power that finding a PSU that will run smoothly at such a low current draw can be a problem.
Personally I would try and find an old AT PSU (one with a physical on/off switch) that's around 150-250w. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

I have found that loading the PSU by connecting an old hard drive helps to get it stable if the draw is too low. No need for the data cable, just power. |

Have you got or made the adaptor board to turn on an ATX psu? _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

In general, using ATX power supplies is a big no-no. Current ATX PSUs are made for motherboards running on 3.3V, CBM Amiga motherboards requires 5V. The 5V you get from current ATX PSUs is mostly there for "mechanical use", for peripherals etc, and may not be of the quality (in terms of steady voltage, reliable amp, ripples) that you want for the Amiga motherboard.
Older ATX PSUs, built for the days when motherboards were running on 5V, are much better, but rare to find these days. Best is to buy PSU built for Amiga, or if you want to use modern ATX PSU, also get a regulator that "cleans up" the 5V line (and typically also provide an on/off button).
You have not stated what Amiga you want this for :) _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

My plan it is to power my A500 and A1200 with this.
So how or what do I need to use a modern ATX PSU 350W+ on any of these models since my CBM psu is starting to get very old.
So what do I do. ? |

Just a standard nothing fancy pc one. did have a real cheap shity thing but that caused issue at the connection plug. so I have replaced that with a bit better one. Am thinking of changing it again to a nice corsair modular one so I have less cables. Last edited by g01df1sh on 18-Jul-2016 at 09:47 AM.

If you have a version of freecycle where you are put up a request for ancient pc parts, I did it last year and got 3 AT PSUs. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

| I have an a1200 / 030 / external floppy drive and it runs fine on a Corsair 550w silent PSU. I got the ATX adaptors from the guy on eBay and have had zero issues with stability.

The modular one is what I went for. Proper smart - so expensive it comes in a bag - who needs a bag for a PSU? Anyway, this is the model I went for:
