| Japanese company buys ARM holdings.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-36822806
The general buisiness practise of a person or company is heavily reliant on the people and the country where that company is from, the psychology and mentality.
ARM came up with an energy efficint clockless design, but it hasnt become widespread. It hasnt included widespread error correction or logic security, but would anyone else?
Do chip makers do like Poundland and run on a 2% profit margin, or do they do like the housing market, build two chips and sell one in ceramic package for ten times the price of a plastic one, etc?

I don't understand your statements my friend. The ARM chip is used in practically any tablet and mobile device. But they don't manufacturer, they licence the designs. This in turn gives them a massive profit margin. They are probably the most influential chip manufacturer of the past decade.
The real shame here is that its a good old British brand but like Mini, Jaguar and Harrods, they are sold off to international investors. A shame but its not unique to the UK. A lot of homegrown US brands are owned by China and the likes.
We really are in a global world now. The only thing that will keep ARM's operations in the UK is if there is a lot of local talent who don't want to relocate. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

Actually they will sell for 1 US$ as Japanese sure desire to sell as many as possible and control the market... Last edited by Raffaele on 18-Jul-2016 at 12:39 PM. Last edited by Raffaele on 18-Jul-2016 at 12:39 PM.

| @Pleng The Japanese government was quite prepared to use semi-illegal tactics to block the sale of one of their companies (the cherished "Bulldog" brand, which makes well known food sauces) to a foreign company, by devaluing the shares by 10 times (so that the would-be buyer owned 10 times less shares (as a percentage) than they originally did). Or so I heard.
However, Japan arguably only pays lip-service to the concept of a freemarket & democracy... (BTW, this is coming from a Japanophile. Japan has lots of good aspects. Politics just isn't one of them.) | The sale sounds like a scam. Steal designs legally then clone, and fake a new chip for the mass market only cheaper! _________________ Quote:

Au contraire.
If someone wanted to buy up a company in the Amiga realm that designs things but doesn't actually implement them it would be Hyperion.

He should had expressed his conceals before selling, not after.

ARM is publicly traded, he wouldn't be able to stop it. He's one of the founders, not the current owner. Chances are if you have a pension, you might own a bit of ARM. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

| @Pleng I never said that . Just pointing out the slight irony that the Japanese government was quite able to block this kind of deal. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |
