Wo would have known they were still selling 750,000 units a year? Who's buying them?! Anyone remember the Amiga backup solution that recorded data to VHS?

Here is another article on the demise of the VCR -

http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/gadgets/a21956/the-last-vcr/?mag=pop&list=nl_pnl_news&src=nl&date=072116

I still say Beta is superior to VHS.

Argh, do it sooner rather than later. I went to do all mine that had been in storage since around 2002, turns out they mostly got thrown out about 2 months ago by my folks, thinking I would never get around to doing them :/ I just collected them this week to start, and 90% of them are gone.

@klx300r

It's important to convert the home videos for sure. I need to do some more before the machine packs in.

Got a backup VCR being so lazy. The one in use is smarter like searching, used to remove ads (don't know now) Some programs are recorded in double slow speed to get eg 120 mins in 60 mins space. Top quality in the times but not as Beta was.

Must see if any how videos. My cousin has/had a recorder that hase DVD and VHS in the same.

Maybe not too hard to insert cables to a pc, any recommended SW?

(Edit: My vids are not homestyle luckily. All series have been shown again three times again at least. They're all at my parents where the double-VHS-DVD machine was for loan..)

In my experience I trust VHS tapes many times more than DVD's...I'll be backuing up directly to my HD & making multiple backups when i finally get around to it

@klx300r

I think the software can save to a MP4 or something file as well as direct to DVD.

You can still buy systems in the UK which are DVD R/W + VHS all in one, very useful if you have a lot of stuff spread over multiple formats.
