We are working hard for a good X1000 Linux support. Here are some news.

1. We released a new ubuntu MATE 16.04.1 live DVD with a new installer last week.

Link: ubuntu MATE 16.04.1 Live DVD -- forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz

4. We are also testing Lubuntu 16.10 and Xubuntu 16.10.

Screenshots:

5. We have released some updates for the stable and stable longterm kernels this year.

The latest version of the stable longterm kernel 4.1: vmlinux-4.1.33-AmigaONE_X1000.tar.gz

The latest version of the stable kernel 4.7: vmlinux-4.7.4-AmigaONE_X1000.tar.gz

6. We are testing the future kernel 4.8.

Link: Kernel 4.8 -- forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz

Darren has improved a lot in the Nemo patch. It's getting smaller and smaller. He is integrating our Nemo board into the official kernel source code. Impressive!!!!!!

Link: [RFC PATCH 0/3] powerpc/pasemi: initial Nemo motherboard support.

I will release the new RC7 of kernel 4.8 today.

7. Happy 25th birthday, Linux.

Twenty-five years Linux development. A lot of time has passed. I have played a bit with very old Linux distributions because of the anniversary of Linux.

@xeno74

Thank you for the update. I downloaded this
"Link: ubuntu MATE 16.04.1 Live DVD -- forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz"

It works with my card R-9 280X at last cool!!
However I have the same problem the guy at the same link had "I can't install to a hard drive"

So I know my card will work but I can install it???

What was the point of the dvd.iso download then. I am very confused and upset at the hours I have spent trying to do an install of linux on my AmigaOne X1000 that works with my card

any suggestions ???

@xeno74

I've burned the iso & it boot to the desk top ok. GPart sees my new disk, not sure how to prep the partitions other then ext4 & a swap. I pick the new disk & it starts to install, but quits with "out of disk space", disk is an IDE 160G. After some checks, it seems any disk I pick to install is just ignored. Have a feeling its my r9 270 gfx card as my ubuntu 12.04 DVD won't boot anymore & the 12.04 install required a different kernel to boot from disk.

I will be at Amiwest on Saturday & Sunday, not sure what plans they have for you there, but looking forward to meeting you.

@xeno74

Yes I did the ubuntu-instal on the command line. I now have a "copy" of the Live DVD complete with the "instal on the desktop" on the hard drive. I should add that, with no user password or name and no root password as well.

You and the other Linux guys have done a great deal of hard work!!!!!!!! I am thankful for all that hard work, I truly am!!

That work has and is, gone unrequited from "most" AmigaOne X1000 owners however. It looks to me that zero or close to it "work" has been done so that "the rest of us" can install or use Linux at all on our AmigaOne X1000's.

There is no user friendly guide of any kind for for any Linux distro other that the one DVD that A-Eon has put out. That will not work with most of the cards that people have to work with Warp3D. I now have Linux 16.04.1 on my hard drive, installed with that "ubuntu-instal". It works with my R-9 280X card. The Radeon drivers are pure crap for Linux, but I works enough. AMD is no longer supporting any driver updates for Linux with Southern Island cards so I will have to be happy with what I have. I am :)

This has been a long and painful process to get where I am. A few weekends spent only to give up for 2 months and then give it another try.

Most of us are not Linux savvy enough to pick up on all the "Linux talk" or some of the bad information (wrong shell commands, incorrect syntax) on the different sites. A true guide that IS for the rest of us would be a BIG help to many, many, many people. Please work to provide one so we all can try Linux on our systems and enjoy all that hard work. Thank you :)

@apsturk
Many thanks for testing the new ubunu-install script. It's really fantastic that you was able to install the live DVD to a partition.
We are testing the new Mesa 12.0.3 on Fedora 25 PPC64 currently. It was compiled with LLVM 3 and I have found the files radeonsi_dri.so and radeonsi_drv_video.so in the directory /usr/lib64/dri. Maybe you have hardware 3D acceleration with your SI graphics card on Fedora 25 PPC64.

@All
Please test Fedora 25 with your SI Radeon graphics cards (7xxx or higher).

Fedora 25 MATE PPC64 with Mesa 12.0.3 and the new stable kernel 4.7.5:

@sundown
Thanks a lot for testing the new live DVD. Could you please recreate an ext4 partition with GParted on your new hard disk?
Later, it is very important to put in the correct partition name when the installer ask. For example /dev/sdb1.

Thanks,

Christian

That was the problem, I was just entering sdd1, /dev/sdd1 worked much better & it did install & the disk boots into Mate.

After running for a bit, a window pops up saying there was an error of some sort, so far, I've just ignored it. Not sure if clicking on "send report" would do any good.

@PhantomInterrogative

The modified Freescale/NXP kernel 3.12.19-rt30 has support for the Tabor sound device. Music and videos work with this kernel.

I haven't tried recording audio yet.

Hi All,

Some news for you.

An ubuntu MATE 16.04.1 LTS live USB img is available for the AmigaOne X5000. It has also the alternative installer script. Please contact the users on the X5000 mailing list to get the live USB img for the X5000.

The ubuntu MATE 16.04.1 LTS live DVD with the RC5 of kernel 4.9 on the AmigaOne X1000:

Please try to install ubuntu MATE 16.04.1 LTS with the alternative installer script. I'd like to know if it works for you.

- DEBIAN -

As you may already know, PowerPC has been removed from testing (Debian 9/Stretch). Your only option is switching to unstable (Debian Sid). You can also use the experimental main repository if you like.

Links:

- Debian drops powerpc --tenfourfox.blogspot.de
- Debian 9 "Stretch" Drops PowerPC As A Release Architecture --phoronix.com
- Release Architectures for Debian 9 'Stretch'
- Release Architectures for Debian 9 'Stretch' --Debian PowerPC mailing list
- Moving powerpc to Debian Ports --Debian PowerPC mailing list
- Debian unstable Sid introduction
- Debian experimental introduction

My sources.list (/etc/apt/sources.list):

Quote:

deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian experimental main
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free

I can confirm, that the unstable repositories are working. I also use the experimental main repository. I have recently updated Firefox to version 49.0-5 and Icedove to version 45.4.0-1 via the experimental main repository.

Quote:
apt-get install -t experimental firefox

Quote:
apt-get install -t experimental thunderbird

Thunderbird isn't still available for Debian Sid.

By the way, Firefox 49.0-5 isn't really stable. I would recommend you to use Firefox 45.4.0esr-2 on Debian Sid instead. You can install Firefox 45.4.0esr-2 with

Quote:
apt-get install iceweasel

Please switch to the unstable repositories. In addition you can use the experimental main repository too.

Screenshot of Debian Sid PowerPC with the Firefox 49.0-4.

We have released the final version of kernel 4.8 and some updated stable versions of the kernel 4.8.

We are testing the kernel 4.9 currently. The Nemo patch for the kernel 4.9 is very small because a lot of Nemo code is in the official kernel source code now.

We are also testing ubuntu MATE 17.04.

Fedora 25 Server PPC64 with the RC3 of kernel 4.9:

We have also released the stable longterm kernel 4.1.35.

- R E T R O -

I installed the old S.u.S.E. Linux 6.0 (released 1998) with QEMU on my X1000 last week.

Part 1 with the StarOffice installation:

Part 2 with StarOffice 5.0:

Part 3 with Applixware Office:

Part 4 with KDE 1.0:

- FEDORA 25 BETA PPC64 1.1 -

I successfully updated my Fedora Server PPC64 to version 25 beta 1.1 3 weeks ago.

- A1222 TABOR -

Two Tabor boards are working hard to create Debian PowerPCSPE packages: https://buildd.debian.org/status/architecture.php?a=powerpcspe

I was able to update MATE to version 1.16.1 on my Tabor board.

I hope you have enjoyed the news!

Cheers,
Christian

Please contact A-EON directly.

Link: http://www.a-eon.com/?page=contact

I think Spectre660 could share the download link here. The ubuntu MATE 16.04.1 LTS Live USB img isn't under the NDA.
