What do you think about the new NES Classic Mini?

I think it's super cute and contains pretty much those games I played most as a kid.

Sure you can play it on Amiga, PC or RasPi, but its not the same I think

@Deniil715

The NES was released so late in the UK (Sep 1986, over 3 years after Japan & a year after USA) as to be almost completely irrelevant to the C64/Spectrum and then Atari ST/Amiga owning masses. Saying that my brother in law is excited about it. Personally I played The Great Giana Sisters, liked the Amiga version of Double Dragon and get annoyed how much emphasis Americans place on this machine

@Thread

The only NES I played for any length of time was a Russian released clone called the Dendy! Suitably ironic given that Nintendo used a cloned version of the 6502 CPU (Ricoh 2A03 - containing 5 fewer transistors so as to disable the patent infringing elements of the chip) so they didn't need to pay the MOS license for it

@BigD

Patents hinder development, so good for them

I got in contact with NES probably around 1988 or something. Hadn't really seen any electronic games until then. Maybe the odd game'n'watch. I thought it was quite intriguing! Only a few friends had it. I sucked so at playing though..

A few times we got to rent a NES and SMB or IceClimber. Connecting it to our old TV and manually turning the 8th (and last) tuning knob for a few minutes to finally see that colour sparkling start screen was pure magic!!!

I have very fond memories of the NES. Much more than Amiga games. Although the Amiga as a machine is much more dear to me of course Never like that 16-bit graphics very much that Amiga, SuperNES and Sega megadrive had. Too much clutter. 8-bit was clean and good.

I want to buy this NES Classic Mini, but I know I won't be playing it, and even if I did, it would be boring, no magic. Better just hang on to the memory. I don't get people playing games in adulthood (unless possibly complex modern games that you can really get into, internet based etc.). I mean, Lotus Esprit, now, as a soon 40-yearold, what's the point?

For a one off games night with an old Amiga loving friend (or your own kids to tear them away from their tablets) to relive the classics from yesteryear or get the null modem 2 player mode working that you never managed to set up yourself back in the day but played on a PC once? Good enough answer?

@BigD

Yeah, that makes sense
For nostalgia, hearing the good music in original, remembering the good ol' times. I do get that.
