Awesome combination - I hope this doesn't remain exclusive forever.

Good question re: FPGA solutions.

Is there any dialog with the FPGA developers concerning compatibility/bundling?

The MiST board runs an enhanced MiniMig core which is GPL licensed. The Vampire's CPU core will remain closed source but when the SuperAGA core is done it will be open sourced also.

Most FPGA reimplementation are using PS/2 or USB keyboards, a cheap standard keyboard should be OK.

@Samurai_Crow

More importantly, will the standalone boards (existing or future) be form factor compatible with the new cases?

Personally, I'd be happier with a mini itx form factor.

Only about $15,000 Singapore Dollars to go for the key-caps kickstarter now!

And how about this color scheme?

"CD32 Special Color Scheme Keycaps:
Color Scheme is Exclusive for the duration of this campaign!
This layout will be AVAILABLE through RMI as a REGULAR color.
-> New A1200 SE CD32 Cases will be available to backers Q1-2017."

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/a1200housing/new-compatible-keycaps-for-amiga-computers

** Update on the Key Caps kickstarter **

Not only has the goal been met...

...we are now checking off the stretch goals as well, one after another!

So from now on all backers have a bigger selection of keyboard layouts to chose from for their new Keycaps Sets:

UK English
US English
DE German
SW Swedish
FN Finnish
FR FRENCH

- Plus Extra ALT & "A" Keycaps added in each sets.

Only 14 days to go if you want a part of the pledge-perks:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/a1200housing/new-compatible-keycaps-for-amiga-computers/

"And we'll announce tremendous news early next year as per our next projects."

Maybe something keyboard related? Who knows!

Once again, previous speculations has been confirmed, the new Amiga will be called "Commodore A1200 Reloaded"!

The new machine does not directly compare to any existing Amiga mainboard, but if you want a comparison basis, then an A1200 is probably the closest match. However, there are differences that also make it very much "not A1200", hence differentiated with the "Reloaded" suffix.

About the machine:

Commodore A1200 Reloaded is an AGA Amiga using the original chips Alice, Lisa and Paula, along with two CIA chips. Other chips of the computer will be replaced by modern logic chips.

For example: Chipram is one of the special things where the Amiga Reloaded scores: Although it's "only" 2MByte Chipram like all other AGA machines before, the memory is much faster and can be accessed by the processor at full speed even when eight bitplanes are switched on. This is accomplished by making use of modern memory technology, which is a lot faster than the D-RAMs that the AGA chipset was designed for. The higher speed allows inserting extra timeslots between the original DMA slots of the Alice chip.

As a result, the CPU will have high-speed access to chip memory even when 8 bitplanes are used, or the blitter is in "nasty mode", where it will not slow down if the processor signals that it wants to access chip ram. However, this may cause undesired effects with software that can't handle this kind of speed, so this feature can be switched off at the user's choice while the machine is running (no reboot required). It may also be a good idea to patch system functions to not use the blitter, but the CPU to do blitter functions, because the CPU will outperform the blitter in many, if not all aspects, given that it will have at least 14MByte/second performance on chipram.

It will have a floppy connector for a standard PC drive. This drive will work like an original 880k Amiga disk drive without electrical modifications. All track loaders and copy-protected games will work.

It will also have two CF-card slots (one internal, one external) for mass storage, part of the 32-bit IO subsystem.

The target price of the main board with AGA chips is under 200,- EUR!

On top of that you make the following selections:

1. An A1200 CPU card according to your wallet, preference and performance requirements
2a. 15kHz RGB output board (for original Commodore monitors and TV's and monitors that candle it)
2b. Flickerfixer output board (for VGA and HDMI output)
3. Optional USB functionality can be added with the X-Surf-100 version of RapidRoad.
4. Optional 100MBit Ethernet at a considerably lower price than the X-Surf-10

It fits in any original A1200/A500 case with keyboard. And of course in the upcoming NEW A1200 cases (the first ones manufactured this passed monday, now only finishing touches remains!)

Been thinking about the Commodore A1200 Reloaded H/W...

1) One thing that would make it really complete, would be if it had *two internal* floppy connectors (since there won't be any external one).

That way a Lotharek HxC Floppy Emulator can be used with the first (say, DF0) while a real floppy drive could be used with the second (DF1). I think many would really appreciate this! Or is a real disk drive colliding physically in this new A1200 case with the floppy emulator/display and its mounting place in the case?

2) The other thing that would make it complete, would be if the the 1MB kickstart flash memory could hold 2x 512K images, with the ability to "switch" between them in some convenient way, like a KS-switch.

That way you could use Cloanto's 3.1 ROM for purist/compatibility reasons (since they are essentially unchanged), and the Cloanto 3.X ROM with all its improvements (or your own compilation, if you are into that kind of stuff).

This would really complete it, IMHO.

Me too,

there was a crowd funding project of Amiga 1200 like Keyboard cases for mini itx boards, but there was a lag of funding:

@TRIPOS

I'm not here much these days, but I have one question:

Quote:
Polabe Holding NV purchased the Commodore Trademarks from C=Holdings BV in 2014.

Source Individual Computer

Yet all legal links I have found indicate C=Holdings B.V. is still the trademark holder.

Example from Trademarkia

Also...

If you google EUIPO by opposition #, you will find the same information as posted on the Lemon64 forums late last year:

Source 2nd post

This prompts the question "why would C=Holdings B.V. file and receive a decision about its trademarks in 2016 if they had been sold to some other holding company?" (as shown in the news from Individual Computers)

Don't mind me, I'm just occasionally interested in the history of licensing and such concerning Commodore and Amiga. (evil grin)

@thread

Any "real" news or any availability for purchase on either of these projects (Amiga "licensed" cases and Commodore "licensed" 1200 reloaded)?

There is a news about Amiga Reloaded.

It is delayed about a year. First prototybe will be ready this year.

Specs has chaged also and price has risen to 350€ (was 200€).

The cases were shipped, I have 4 of them as mentioned, and they are great cases - more sturdy and robust than original cases. The gallery at https://www.a1200.net/a1200cases-gallery shows _real_ cases now, but the colours are a little off in the gallery on some of the cases, such as the light blue, which really is a lot more light blue that the picture shows. I have tried many times to capture the true colour of my light blue case with camera, and I have yet to manage. In general, for the coloured cases, they are a bit brighter in real life than what the photos show :)

The last date for supporters to decide on colours in the keycaps kickstarter is July 14th, and from what I understand, the production will start right away. The people who backed the CD32 edition keycaps were also offered a discount on the special CD32 edition case.

In the end I will have a ridiculous amount of cases (6) and even more keycap sets to mix and match with (10 sets, but some are for old external keyboards too). :D

@thread,

Does anyone know if it will be possible to connect PCI busbaords (e.g. Mediator) to the A1200 reloaded?

Thanks,

Like with third party accelerator it should work but isn't guaranteed. Maybe one of the dealers will test it out once A1200R is available.

Cheers Rob, I hope a dealer does get a chance to test this, would be very interested in the potential performance boosts this redesign could bring.

So, did google translate fail me or does the article refer to C64 reloaded prototype or actual product shipping?

Also, including a quote of mine from another thread about the other reloaded:

Quote:
And even as late as last year wiki (and Jens) still referred to 1200 reloaded as "Amiga 1200 reloaded", which later became "Commodore 1200 reloaded". I've recently seen reference to "1200 reloaded", so I'm not sure what he actually intends to use.

ok. from the above link I see 2 more new names:
Quote:
C64 Reloaded MK2

Quote:
Commodore 64 Reloaded MK2

Any clue what the branding will actually be, or are they just having fun renaming this every month?
