| @Hypex I don't see how it autoboots. I loaded the ISO into ICD0: with diskimage_device to see what files it contained. There is no startup sequence or slb (slb_v2) file. None of the files have icons. I think I'll wait until someone else updates and ask how they did it.
With regard to the sources: There is a Makefile and a file named MAKEALL. However, the last entry in the changelog is 2007. I didn't try to compile it.

My own last UBoot update for my Sam is long ago. But I suppose they mean "AmigaOS Autoboot". Further there is another option for "Uboot". Both refer to AmiDVD which should be the tool to use (at least I did that back then). I don't know how that would match to PC/Mac burning tools.
Options can be seen:

I just burnt the ISO on my Mac Book Pro and put it in my SAM and auto booted the CD. I set no options in OS X just chose Burn ISO in Finder.
I did have the difficulty of not being able to trigger update by pressing SPACE as instructed. Then a thought hit me and, indeed, I had to move the keyboard cable from the front of my SAM's case to a back USB connector -- then SPACE worked.
Upgraded smoothly.

I think that Pegasos II can't use brigde cards, uboot (or what ever it has) doesn't see behind of it. |

It uses Smart Firmware an you're right that it can't see the bridge so no HD cards for Peg2 and it's highly unlikely it will get updated. |

I don't know how a non bootable CD boots, but U-boot did indeed find the image and the upgrade went perfect. |

If it's for UBoot then it likely wouldn't contain any AmigaOS related files. Nor an slb_v2 file as that would be embedded in the CD boot block. MakeCD can insert this as an MSDOS bootable image file.
It's likely ACube compiled the updater as the boot block or some program that could run an update script in UBoot.
Just like the A1 UBoot update CD from years ago. Last edited by Hypex on 22-Oct-2016 at 04:46 PM.

I think I understand now. So not bootable in the normal AmigaOS bootable CD sense? Last edited by Hypex on 22-Oct-2016 at 04:46 PM.

| It uses Parthenope, which is an open source SLB. So it uses U-Boot SLB-style booting (boota)
I can't actually get my SAM440EP to upgrade though - it boots, flashes some text on screen and then reboots too fast for me to read. Has anybody with a SAM440EP (not Flex) managed to install the update?

Have you downloaded the correct ISO? There's two of them. |

Yes, the one ending "mini". I downloaded it twice, wrote it to CD twice on two different computers to two different CDs, and both copies do the same thing.

Yep, same here. I can't update my Sam440ep Mini-ITX (atm: Uboot 1.3.1d Feb 15 2011).

| Have you tried to start the updater several times or only once ? The last time I was updating Uboot on A1-SE years ago, sometimes the updater started at the first attempt, sometimes it took 3-4 attempts before it started. (Maybe a certain phase of moon was needed and so on...) Last edited by Tomppeli on 21-Oct-2016 at 10:22 AM.

I tried it lots of times - I had it in a perpetual reboot loop at one point.
1.3.1d here too. Glad it's not just me. Anybody from ACube reading?

I wonder if that's the bug I found in Parthnope? I thought it only affected the A1 but there is a section in the CD code that sends a pointer to UBoot API that is NULL. According to the API it must be a handle for something. IIRC it would crash on first fresh boot but would be fine after the machine had been booted. Something like that. Details are on here somewhere and in an email. If indeed it is the same problem. |
