You can't order an X5000 form AmigaKit yet but you can order an engraved front panel for AmigaOne X5000. What is that exactly? There is no picture. Is it some kind of fancy 5,25" panel? Seems kind of steep with €37,50 in that case.

@Niolator

It must be a full panel.

It is the customized front panel for Fractal Design Core 3300 case. You can see the picture on Amedia computer's pages, also they have it for sale.

The engraved front panel was removed from the store just after I started this thread. A coincidence? The only remaining X5000 related product is now a backplate for £12,48. Does that mean that the Cyrus motherboard doesn't come with a backplate? Is it actually considered an accessory you have to pay extra for?

@Niolator

IIRC, the X5000 will be sold as a full system, AND as just the motherboard, in which case you would want the backplate to set things up in your own case.

@BoingBear

Motherboards come with back panels in the accessories though (along with a few cables, etc.).
I've *never* bought one that doesn't.
Given the insanely high prices of this hardware surely they wouldn't charge extra for these things? Seems like adding insult to injury.

@fishy_fis

Except that like everything Amiga NG...

These items are custom made for custom boards!

It isn't just a tin cutout.

And every time you add a item to your wish list ...it costs someone somewhere!!!

@SACC-dude

In regards to back plates things are no different for any system. Its not like they're "one size fits all". The vast majority of back plates are made with a specific board in mind which is why they're provided with the accessories that come with a board.

Given the extortionate price of this hardware its insulting to have to fork out extra, and that much extra for something like a backplate.

On any system, anywhere, these things cost someone something.
Yes, weight of numbers is a real thing, unfortunately so is using that as an excuse to milk every penny possible for Amiga enthusiasts.

Amiga fans already pay through the nose. Its sad that they additionally also seem to have to pay a "sucker tax".

I agree with fishy_fis here. I have never bought a motherboard that hasn't come with a backplate, I see it as an integrated part of the motherboard. For example the motherboard for SAM 460 was delivered with a backplate. Surely this must be a replacement for people that somehow lost the original backplate.
