| Hi fellow amigans,
could someone with an AmigaOne X5000 please check if FreeCAD is working and on which Linux Distro.
I'd be glad to know if it works on a X1000 too as ti doesn't on my A1-X1000 with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with the latest update. Splash screen is there, but then it crashes.
I would like to run FreeCAD 0.16.
Thanks |

What about LibreCAD under Debian Jessie as an alternative? _________________ A1SE: G3@600MHz, 2GB, 1GBit network card A1XE: G4@933MHz, 2GB, refitted AC'97 codec microA1: G3@800MHz, 1GB

I explored that possibility already but LibreCAD is 2D only. unfortunately I need 3D modelling..
Maybe I could look into blender, but I'd have to double the work..

of course it is. My mistake, I mistyped, Geri suggested LibreCAD, that was what I was referring to and that's 2D only.
My first post is correct tho, I would like to know if FreeCAD runs on X5000 (I don't have one yet) and on other X1000 systems. I only have Ubuntu 16.04LTS on my X1000, it does not run here and it's a bit of a hassle to repartition the HD, install another distro just to find out FreeCAD does not work.Last edited by Amigo1 on 03-Nov-2016 at 05:50 AM.

openscad may be another alternative, if you can live with writing scripts to virtually build your 3D object. A colleague uses it to create objects that he prints with his 3D printer later on.
I could give FreeCAD a try on my A1XE with Debian Jessie, it that helps. _________________ A1SE: G3@600MHz, 2GB, 1GBit network card A1XE: G4@933MHz, 2GB, refitted AC'97 codec microA1: G3@800MHz, 1GB

Both the Debian stable (v0.14) and the backports version (v0.16) of FreeCAD work on my A1XE with Debian Jessie. But it could also be, that it just crashes on 64 bit machines!?
Note that you could also use the Debian version of FreeCAD in a chroot environment in your Ubuntu installation to avoid another full blown Linux installation. _________________ A1SE: G3@600MHz, 2GB, 1GBit network card A1XE: G4@933MHz, 2GB, refitted AC'97 codec microA1: G3@800MHz, 1GB

Oh, Cool! I'll try that and see if I can figure out to make it work! Thanks a lot!
Unfortunately I don't have my XE here, only the X1000 and my Sam440 (too slow). |
