| A couple of years ago I was heavy into genealogy. I figured out how to type umlauts for some German names and places. For the life of me I can't remember how I did it. I believe it took two keystrokes. Does anyone know how to type umlauts with a USA keyboard? Thanks in advance.

I think it's the same as the UK keyboard - alt+h followed by the character you want the umlaut over.

Thanks so much! Alt-h gives a hat but I tried other Alt combinations based on that and Alt-k did the trick.

I use Czech keyboard (easy there), but when I change to EN keyboard, I can type umlauts with Alt Gr (Windows):
ae - Alt Gr+q ue - Alt Gr+y oe - Alt Gr+p |

Alt-k release, then a = ä Alt-k release, then o = ö Alt-k release, then u = ü
basically:
Alt-f = acute accent (á,é,í,ó,ú) Alt-g = grave accent (à,è,ì,ò,ù) Alt-h = circumflex (â,ê,î,ô,û) Alt-j = virguilla or "tilde" (ñ) Alt-k =Diaeresis (ä,ë,ï,ö,ü) |

Sorry, I wasn't in front of an Amiga to check which key it was, so working from memory. F-K have all the different accents. In front of a proper keyboard now, it's obvious K is the correct one, and I couldn't tell you what H and J are without trying them.
