| During my work on ReTargetable Graphics Wikipedia article, I read several reviews of older RTG hardware/software. However, in case of Retina my sources are confusing: one say Retina GFX drivers are able to display Workbench in 24 bit, other say only some windows on WB, another speaks about buggy implementation of this mode. As WinUAE doesn´t support Retina cards yet, I´m not able to test this myself.
Are there any Retina GFX card users with experence/knowledge about original Retina driver software, who could clarify this? Thanks for help.
Edit: Changing thread title (was: Retina GFX cards driver software), as I have questions about other cards/drivers too... Last edited by pavlor on 29-Nov-2016 at 06:00 PM. Last edited by pavlor on 29-Nov-2016 at 06:00 PM.

At one time, I owned a Retina Z3, which had a pass through for ECS/AGA screens. It would display workbench either through the pass through, or under 24 bit color and resolutions. My memory is fuzzy right now. I do not know if 24 bit workbench was through MacroSystem's custom drivers, or through Picasso96. _________________ I sold my SAM460ex lite... waiting for money to buy a Raspberry Pi... or a Classic A1000 with Buffee... or an A1222... and OS4.3 FE update 11 |

To display a graphic buffer in 16 or 24 bit is only a matter of how much memory has equipped the graphic card.
According to this article in the big book of amiga hardware, there were two versions of the card: 1Mb and 4 Mb.
So if I haven't done the wrong math, to display a 24 bit image in, for example, 1024*768 resolution you need:
(1024 * 768 * 24) / 8 / 1024 = 2304 Kb -> way too much for the 1Mb version |

| New question:
According to French AmigaNews magazine (No 97, January 1997, p. 5), Picasso96 should be evolution of the original driver software for the Graffity card. True? |
