| I am having to reinstall OS4.1FE on my X1000 after 4+ years and am making mistakes.
This mistake is that during install I entered this monitor's various resolution modes, but after installation it was "stuck" at 1024x768. I foolishly "forced" a higher resolution which (I am guessing) the Radeon RV730 + install CD driver cannot do.
Now if I boot, the 2 boot up screens show as always but then goes completely black, so I am back to booting the install CD and running from there.
How do I make changes to the hard disk system while the CD has its own "system"? I cannot use "Prefs" to make changes.
1) How do I fix *this* problem so I can boot to a visable HD system; and 2) How in general after booting to the CD, use it to change things in the HD system?
I cd to the hard disk ENV-Archive where Screens is empty and screenmode.prefs is in some sort of code (and on and on). ------ Sometime in the past I read about somebody in this fix and an answer provided, but after a couple hours internet search and lots of disappointing reading, hat-in-hand, I seek the wisdom of others. Screenmode Prefs has a Save As option.
Perhaps boot from CD, fire up Screenmode Prefs, and save to your HD., e.g., DH0:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys/screenmode.prefs ? _________________ --------------- AmigaOne X5000 P5020 2Ghz, OS 4.1 AmigaOne XE G4 800mhz, OS 4.1 A1200T 40Mhz 68040, OS 3.9 |

Do it the easy way...
when the FE bootscreen appears hold down ctrl, after a few seconds this will open a cli window. type:
delete envarc:sys/screenmode.prefs
and press return.
Reboot and workbench should appear then install the full version of the radeon driver from amistore or a backup. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

| Isn't this a RadeonHD install issue? Last edited by Srtest on 29-Nov-2016 at 09:17 PM.

Yes, FE comes with a light (or lite for those that can't spell) version of RadeonHD that is limited to a maximum resolution of 1024x768. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

Did that. No change in symptoms.
Verified that I carried out the suggestion this way.
0.OS4.1FE:> list envarc:sys/screenmode.prefs LIST: No information for "envarc:sys/screenmode.prefs". LIST: object not found 0.OS4.4FE:>
And the CD was no in the machine. Only 1 harddisk connected.

I spent nearly the whole of my reading on the hyperion site to no avail. I'm just not that good at choosing keyword for searching. I'd choose and reeeeeeeeeead hoping it would get to THIS black screen issue.
Thanks for the attention. The hyperion site has less traffic than AmigaWorld.net so I came here 1st. I not inclined to "shotgun" the same question all over the place. _________________ ..effects of civilization upon...nature, the growing gap between what education was supposed to accomplish and what it consisted of, the national debt and...high taxes, the problem of the excess cost of medical care -- Philip Wylie, 1951 |
