The announcement says update 1 will be released to all supported systems before the end of 2016. _________________ Rock lobster bit me. My Workbench has always preferences. X1000 + AmigaOS4.1 FE "Anyone can build a fast CPU. The trick is to build a fast system." -Seymour Cray |

Special x5000 machine specific Update #1 pre-release of OS4.1 final edition released today. General "final version" of the final edition of OS4.1 released before new year.
(You've got to love the simple, straight-forward versioning scheme of Hyperion... )

| Lol, well it's not that complicated. Only that maybe later if there are any bugs/corrections there will be an update to a final version of a final version's update.

That is price for conservative version numbering...
If Hyperion used higher version number for any major release (4.1, 4.1u1 and 4.FE), this would be nice looking 4.3 Update 1. |

That's not what the announcement says. The announcement says they're, erm, announcing Update #1.
Maybe it's just somebody else writing the press releases now, maybe it's just me not being a native speaker. But I haven't seen any "downloading!", "works way faster than MorphOS!", " take this, you wawa sucker!" postings yet, so I'm not sure any regular customers have access to this update yet.
That said: 7 replies here, not a single mention on a.org, amigans, Hyperion's official forums or a1k. |

| Still Waiting from the early Beta (barebones etc) 4.0, then 4.0, Buying the 4,1 and then a final was not then final but... for the A1XE. In this way the X5000 has to wait also 15 years to be nearly supported?
Anyhow good thing and waiting to buy once more an OS but it would be nice to run something useful on it too!
As said in the Eyetech interview. Without us there would be no OS4.
Waiting another 15 years would be too optimistic I suppose?
Good to have many flavours but are there too many?

The OS4 development has always been under-resourced. It's just a fact of life with the size of the user base involved and the potential revenues. A decent full-time developer with a clue costs up to $100K no problem including overhead/benefits (first-hand experience here). Work out how you would fund that with potentially a few thousand updaters.
However some nice things are happening - X5000s are starting to ship so that will probably help put some more money into the OS4 "pot". A1222 is hopefully going to come out before 2018 so that should provide another nice spike in user base.
And then there is OS3 which refuses to die as well. If the Apollo team keeps on their current trajectory there could be quite a large potential active user base there in the thousands as well. Hyperion could make some good income here if they play their cards right.
So I think both OS4 and OS3 camps have reason to hope for more improvements going forward. I was really surprised to hear about *NEW* Amiga users buying X5000s. Who would have imagined that? Pretty cool. :)
Have a good day everyone. Keep your stick on the ice.

It's good and a bit ? if there are new NG owners, Maybe they had an A500 sometimes and Linux works. Never used it in this XE.
Here too many Amigas, a second room nearly needed..
It's good all get some. Understanding the situation as having a private company for a lifetime.
Amiga has just so much of name, or had that it was used wrong and messed up.
We old guys can support some more, todays kids stare at a phone as walking dead.
Have a nice Snowy time in Canada.
