Firstly it's a fault of mine as well, but I can't help but to begin to the feel the two sites that I always came to for what's going on in the Amiga world at large is starting to slightly miss stories and topic and no one one seem to disgust them here. Amigaworld and Amiga.org are still great site don't get me wrong, and I know that community is largely responsible for what news and topic are on these sites, I haven't been very active my self recently now that I have two jobs I just don't have as much Amiga time :( but still like to quickly check what's going on,maybe I'm just missing them on here.

But I'm starting to feel that Amiga facebook groups are starting to become a bigger part of my go to area of what happing in the Amiga world. I have to say if your still not on facebook or not explored these groups you are missing out on a lot of community activity, maybe just the nature of the site and how easy it is to share photos and updates on projects that it's starting to take over, and just wanted to ask if anyone felt the same.

It's only because projects like armiga, a1200 case, Hart of the alien cd32 port, Amibin(pi Amiga port), and other little project have had little to no coverage here and even when it is, it's all txt based and don't get to see photos or video links like you do on the social sites.

Just feel it a bit of shame, as I do still loves these site and have no real love for facebook, but can't help but give it credit in making me feel there a lot more going on in the community than these sites make out now a days. What's you thoughts.

Yes lately you get more news and progress of ongoing proyects on EAB, twitter and facebook than on A.org and AW.net.

@amigang

perhaps it is related to that amigaworld.net and to a lesser degree amiga.org are NG related sites whereas f.e. eab is pure "classic" (how people here call it). Regarding facebook, there are of course different amiga related pages but the biggest one I know (12000 members) also is pure "classic".

@amigang

If people don't post it it wont appear here.... you can always start threads relating to thngs you read else where, convenirnt as social media is for imediate discusion they are lousey for later search, so forums are stil important and should be allowed to wither...

Here a titbit of news for you, I've just released my Mouse and Keyboard sharing software 'MKShare' on AmiStore http://www.broad.ology.org.uk/amiga/mkshare/

Proper new item to follow later today if I have time.....

In my totally meaningless POV and opinion there is no Next Generation Amiga.

What is Windows? A OS that runs on various hardware.
What is Linux? A OS that runs on various hardware.
What is AmigaOS? A OS that runs on various hardware.

Some people have PPC hardware with various graphics and sound chips to run AmigaOS. Others use emulation and again various graphics, sound, and other computer equipment to do things. Developers are told to write for the API and never mind the hardware. Which takes us back to.....What is AmigaOS? A OS that runs on various hardware, because there is no Next Generation AMIGA.

For me personally, Amiga started down hill after OS version 2 (or was it 2.04?) When the powes that be decided that the OS was more important than the hardware. They were wrong, and since then the Amiga has slowly slipped into oblivion. The hardware/software people that produced so much of what made a great platform even better moved along.

Today it's all about commodity hardware and "Oh! I just bought a 400 euro sound card. Can you make it work please?". No more questions like "Can I connect a digital readout to this Amiga port?", because the reply will be something like " That has been put on the developers todo list", not "Yeah, go for it Dude, just be sure to use a 480 Ohm resistor in line so you don't overdrive the LEDs."

Where is the FUN?

Again, I must stress, my opinion only. Your opinion is under development.

Hmm seems todo that for me to, I can add to the bag, the bag icons shows with a 1 to say there is one item in it, and then when I click on the bag icon it clears and shows nothing there.

It's not something I have control over, I'll get onto Matthew about it.

I believe the problem is fixed now. Log out and resdtart AmiStore before trying again.

Thanks in advance for your support, feel free to ask questions if need be, perhaps in a seperate thread to avoid derailing this one.

@amigang

Well I started posting all I do on FB,

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1678072675765766/

Manly because I can't be bothered with posting the same thing 10 times.
On 4 different Forums, 4 different FB groups, and on private page, and so on, too much work.

Anyway if posted anywhere else I feel it be lost in all the noise.

Well I miss writing more in-depth stuff on my blog, but its just easier to post small updates on FB.

Well I guess where a bit back early days of the internet where, every-one had there own home page with links to web pages they used.

But now people subscribe to RSS feeds and Facebook groups.

But finding this FB groups might not be so easy. Anyway you can beam it on Joel and Pål, this tow asked me post on FB.

@Heinz

Thanks for mentioning amiga-news.de!

@all:

Personally I prefer its "standard" appearance, which can be used either directly by URL (http://amiga-news.de/en/standard/) or by customizing it using the corresponding link on the right side ("Configure main page").

PS: A big "Thank you!" at this occasion to Daniel Reimann, who is doing the english translation of our news-items all by himself (!) for many, many, many years already!

@Signal

If its a choice between something newer or perhaps NG related vs something kind of lame like Armiga, I'll take the former.

Where is the FUN, how about where is the FUNctionality?

I like hardware hacking myself, but that is hardly limited to legacy hardware.
And we ARE covering some pretty cool legacy developments as well.

Its as much a matter of perspective as it is opinion.

And thank God I don't have to rely on 2.04 or earlier.

And you do realize that if there was a Next Gen Amiga, by now it would probably have some commodity components as well, don't you?

Sure legacy hardware was original when introduced, but even before Amiga hardware production stopped it had gotten damned dated.

Which is why I have no problem adding functionality to legacy hardware. Need to add an RTG card for improved graphics? No problem, I have expansion slots on this thing for a reason.

The '80s and '90s are over, and while I don't mind revisiting them, I also like to see if my experience can be pushed further.
That's MY perspective.

You mean in the CBM era?

Clearly that hasn't been the case since.

As for the signal to noise ratio, I can't see that it's gotten any worse. Go back to the archives if you want to witness an inordinate amount of squabbling based on limited reasoning.

Yeah, FUNctionality.

Like I stated, just a meaningless opinion. If I double-up on medication the world gets right again.

Nobody wants to talk about an embarrassing lack of progress and failures.
