| I have a question about this: Can pfs3 be beneficial for me in an emulation capacity on a AOS4 machine which also has a native sfs? I gather there isn't a native version or maybe it's more about working with everything and being efficient. Is it worth it?

I did a port of FPS3 to OS4, it can even be used to boot from FPS3 formatted volumes, but my changes never made it upstream for whatever reason. _________________ This is just like television, only you can see much further. |

You should do something about that. I thought I was the only one interested in this FS being further developed. _________________ It's not the question that's the problem, it's the problem that's the question. |

There's not much I can do other than dumping it on my website if that's good enough for you. I contacted the original developer, he seemed to be interested and then nothing. _________________ This is just like television, only you can see much further. |

| @BSzili i think toni is currently the head maintainer. im not sure if piru is still active. but given pfs3 is free and open source, what speaks against putting os4 version and source on aminet or os4 depot, even as a fork, if need be?
btw, damn blacklist, at times i can post, then again, not..

| @wawa I was interested in getting my changes upstream, not creating a fork. Just look at what happened with SFS with the slightly incompatible versions, and the closed source extension, but I digress. I'll put it on my website, and people can do with it whatever they want. _________________ This is just like television, only you can see much further. |

Why no AROS version ?
We for sure need a better filesystem. |

Sadly only on 68K and potentially PPC as it had endian issues last I knew. :(

I talked to Michiel Pelt not Toni, and he didn't refuse me, I just didn't get a response after a few exchanged mails. Maybe he left the scene, who knows. _________________ This is just like television, only you can see much further. |

That's not entirely true, he has made commits in the repository even in late 2014. This was a couple of years ago, I lost interest since. _________________ This is just like television, only you can see much further. |

mygod. thats like people saying some project was dead, because it was in a stable state.. toni is still active, even if not so much, both with pfs as with aros68k, there is simply not enough feedback or sensible bug reports for him to work upon. in fact it appears there is at least one bug left in pfs, but it hasnt been tracked up so far, and toni usually doesnt want to contribute to another architectures than 68k. so, i understand that you have lost your interest, but it is not the fault of pfs maintainers. |

I didn't say Toni isn't maintaining PFS3, I said Michiel was still active up until late 2014 in the project. I also didn't blame anyone. He got the changes from me and I moved on, that's it. Last edited by BSzili on 16-Dec-2016 at 03:12 PM.

what i am suggesting is, you might try to send your patches to toni and simply see if he can incorporate them. i might be mistaken, but the source shouldnt be so different now, then it was then, so it might still be possible to apply the diffs without much hassle.
on the other hand there must be enough interest on part of os4 testers, because we cannot and wont be testing it for them. so maybe it should rather be sent to someone still active in os4 development like kas1e or salass00, who in turn could be appointed by toni to the repository.
this all with as little hassle as possible on your part. ;) |

i doubt that. an uae emulator can usually take advantage of the host file system and mount a directory from there as a drive. its beneficial on order to exchange data, between emulator and the host, so i dont remember to have ever used any other option. the only situation when i have used pfs3 was on my amigas, primarly with aros, since it is what i have been concerned with since it became free and open. it works rather well for most part, as far as i am able to tell.Last edited by wawa on 16-Dec-2016 at 04:23 PM.
