An alarm is attached to an event, and may display before or after the event starts or finishes. Any number of alarms may be set on a given event.
ie if you have an event set for 00:01 till 23:59 25/12/2018 you can set:
1. an alarm that shows 10days before hand and says "Buy present for christmas"
2. an alarm that shows 5 hours before hand and says "Put up decorations"
3. an alarm that shows 6 hours after te start and says "Get up and open presents"

See above, you don;t an alarm by itself rather the birthsday as an evet and an alarm to display at an arbitrary time before or after of you choosing.

There is a requester option, to use the requester rather than a system notification (RingHIO), when a requester is in use it 'blocks' and must be manually acknowledged by the user.
