| Hi,
I have an external HD, 1TB, using JXFS, that I can no longer access after installing 4.1 FE Update 1. I can't revert back to before Update 1 because I did the backup of my Workbench: partition to that JXFS hard drive.
I don't really know if it's an issue with JXFS or if it's some issue with USB.
The drive shows up in Media Toolbox. The size looks about right (931.512 GB). When I click "Select filesystem/edit details" it shows "JXF\04" for the fiesystem type.
The HD is from LaCie. I don't know much more about it, but the usb.log says "Fkt 0x551d8d20 is {Vendor: 0x059F, Product: 0x1018, Class: 00.00}"
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Any suggestions?
Thanks. |

I though we still had read only access after FE but can you not simply copy JXFS over from 4.1 so you can continue using it for read/write. I backed up all my files that were on JXFS and then switched back to SFS2 when FE came out. |

I booted from the FE CD and was able to access my data. I'll work on copying it to someplace accessible. But maybe I can get FEu1 to work with it, too.
I had r/w access with FE. All I had to do was unlock the drive.

Probably the new Kicklayout does not include JXFileSystem any more, so it isn't loaded. The file system should still be in Kickstart, so if you just add the line to Kicklayout, it might work again (in a read-only fashion): MODULE Kickstart/JXFileSystem

I wouldn't recommend continuing to use JXFS as it has known bugs that will not be fixed because the developer gave up on this file system.
Right now some OS components work around bugs in JXFS by avoiding certain functions, which do not work correctly with it like ChangeFileSize(), but this will probably change in later versions. |

| Still having JFX as it should have been good.
Remove all data to a SFS2 partition?
PFS is good in older.
Recommendations? Didn't update the OS because of this. It works fine. Maybe keep it?

I am going to try adding it to Kicklayout again. I expect that to work, and for read/write, because it worked read/write for me with FE.
If I remember correctly, all I had to do to gain write access to my JXFS partition after the upgrade to FE was to say "lock External: unlock" at the CLI ("External:" is the volume name). Or was that "lock External: OFF"? It was something I found in a printed Amiga magazine - don't remember which.
I know JXFS is not supported. I will eventually move my data to something else. For now, if I get it working as before, it should be fine. It's a backup drive that I plug in only once a month or so, copy some data, verify, and then unplug.

Move to SFS/SFS2. It's always better to use the latest OS update (because of all bug fixes). _________________ Rock lobster bit me. My Workbench has always preferences. X1000 + AmigaOS4.1 FE "Anyone can build a fast CPU. The trick is to build a fast system." -Seymour Cray |

I switched all my JXFS partitions over to SFS\2 before 4.1 FE when the decision to phase out JXFS was made.
I haven't had any problems with them since then so I would say that it's pretty safe. |

Why don't you boot up off your original FE CD? It's a live disc, that's what it's for. _________________ --------------- AmigaOne X5000 P5020 2Ghz, OS 4.1 AmigaOne XE G4 800mhz, OS 4.1 A1200T 40Mhz 68040, OS 3.9 |
