| HI
I received my Amiga 500 and ACA 500 and ACA 1232 accelerators o wednesday and I have problems. This topic is about A500 games from HD,obviously with WHDLoad.
I have only 512k of Chip Ram and I have 3 games installed to test. The first one 1943 and when it tries to load it reset the Amiga and it gives me a Guru Meditation.
To solve this I have some questions: Is the Amiga 500 upgradable to 1-2 Megabytes of Chip?
Is there a solution in form of a card to increase the number of Chip KBytes?
And software?
The guys of AmigaKit told me today to go to Prefs/Workbench and change something to sort the problem but I installed OS3.9 i the last days and today and OS3.5 today and no luck.Any ideas?
Thanks in advance _________________ AMIGA 500 1.5 MB ACA500/ACA1232 accelerators AMIGA 500 German CD32 unexpanded Amiga 1200 Tower on AmigaKit since years AMIGA 1300 030/50 Mhz/32 MB WB 3.9 with lots of games&demos AMIGA ONE XE G3 PPC 800 Mhz/1 GB RAM/RADEON 9250 128 MB/SATA CONTROLLER |

Depends on chipset in your Amiga. ECS Agnus supports up to 2 MB Chip RAM, but your Agnus is probably OCS (512 kB). There were Agnus+Chip RAM expasion boards for A500, but these are hard to find now.
It may be easier and cheaper to simply buy A1200.

To help Clarify, OCS Agnus 8370 (NTSC) or 8371 (PAL) can only address 512 KB of chip.
The 8372A is part of the ECS chipset and can address 1 Meg of Chipram. It also can do PAL or NTSC modes either bin Hardware or by software.
The ECS 8375 Agnus showed up on the A500 Plus and MegaChip style expansions. It can address up to 2 Megs of Chipram. There are many versions of this chip. Some not pin compatible with each other also PAL or NTSC variants.
On the Non A500 plus models such as Rev 5 or 6A, I prefer the hardware hack modification (trace cutting and solder jumper) . This adds the 512 KB of trapdoor memory as Chipram, giving you 1 Meg total. It's cheap and relatively easy to perform, especially on the Rev 6A motherboards.

You need an Agnus 8372A chip. They are available on ebay. You also need a 512 KB Trap door Ram expansion card (it will be added to the 512 KB with the modification to the Amiga motherboards 512 KB giving you a total of 1 Meg of chipram). The modification depends on your Motherboard revision. Do you know what versions you have?

I hate to say that if you have an A500 and NOT the Plus you are stuck with a maximum of 1mb, and this IF and only if expanded either with the notorious hardware hack or with a memory expansion. This is the reason i sold my original ACA500 and i don't plan to buy the second edition. Only an A500+ can fully take advantage of the new ACA500 and in any other case you can be pleased with the cf card add on, the roms that come built in and the extra ram BUT more than half of the Whdload slaves WON'T run. _________________ Vanilla A500 NOS A1200 (Powered by V1200, CoffinOS r.58) PowerMac beast, MorphOS 3.15 (registered) |

I asked and I want you to answer please.
What kind of memory upgrade may I buy on ebay? What is the maximum amount of Chip Ram the Amiga 500 can afford?

Oooooh!!!
I opened the A500 case to see the revision and what happens?
Don't know why the ACA500 doesn't boot and stays at a blue screen
Why this happens? What am I doing wrong?
Can anybody help me? Thanks _________________ AMIGA 500 1.5 MB ACA500/ACA1232 accelerators AMIGA 500 German CD32 unexpanded Amiga 1200 Tower on AmigaKit since years AMIGA 1300 030/50 Mhz/32 MB WB 3.9 with lots of games&demos AMIGA ONE XE G3 PPC 800 Mhz/1 GB RAM/RADEON 9250 128 MB/SATA CONTROLLER |

My guess: Battery leaking onto traces, only became a problem once you wiggled something to get the lid off. Would have failed you shortly in any case.
Unless you fiddled with the lid with power on
What was your revision, btw? _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sorry for the delayed response. Get the 8372A Agnus chip. It can handle both PAL and NTSC. The Chip is socketed. It is best to get a PLCC Chip Extractor so you wont damage the socket when removing the chip (don't use a small screw driver, the older sockets are brittle and will easily crack). After that it's simply plug and play. Just remember the orientation of the old one before removing it. Usually the dot on the chip will line up with pin 1 on the motherboard.
To find your A500 revision motherboard number it will be located above the trap door located under the Floppy drive.
PLCC Chip Extractor
