HI all

Is Toshiba going to go the way of Commodore. If it does I bet it does not stay fitting like Amiga has.

You mean Toshiba will die outright rather than being passed around like a hot potato to even more inept suitors?

Man, I must buy one of their darn good UHD 3D television sets before they will disappear from the market...

They have best price/performance/features ratio...

Some years ago I wanna buy their 40" series 5 that was the best Cheap 3D television set I ever seen still including nowadays VGA-D-Sub port in order to attach a New Gen Amiga to it...

Google for Toshiba-40L5435DG to check its specs.

[EDIT]

And before you ask... Yes!

Their UHD TV set TV LED 40" 40U7653DG ULTRA HD 4K SMART TV WIFI DVB-T2 has built in VGA port too...

@Raffaele

They took big hits hits with HD DVD and the Cell chip. Their laptops used to be great but I don't see many around any more! They are a prolific chip manufacturer still but CE wise they seem to be failing to turn much of a profit despite the interesting technology. That in itself is similar to Commodore except Toshiba maybe spend too much on R&D for products they can't sell!

@g01df1sh

It will be sad to see them go. I have fond memories of using a Toshiba TIMM with my Escom A4000T.

After Fukushima, any bet on currently approved nuclear technology is probably a bad bet. A number of better, safer designs are in development; such as:

Toshiba sells also good "personal" Atomic Reactor Plants for little communities sized 6x2x3 meters (article says 20x6 feets but dos not mention height). They are sealed to prevent any manumission and fully automatized.

Nuclear mini plant works with "fast sodium" cooler and its A.I. put itself in "safe" condition in case of incident or earthquake.

@Xenic

Given that Toshiba delivered the reactors for Fukushima, I wouldn't phrase it as having bet on nuclear AFTER Fukushima, though.

What apparently happened is they increased their ownership in Westinghouse by 1.6B, only to discover that the good numbers they had been getting from Westinghouse were lies.

So in essence, paraphrasing Edisons lawyer team here, Toshiba got "Westinghoused".

Great. Now we can 'literally' have nuclear plants in out back yards instead of just 'nearby'. It might seem like a good idea but having lots of those around would certainly make it easy for terrorists to access radioactive materials for dirty bombs. I think it's a bad idea.

Gee. Imagine that; an unethical corporation. Maybe Toshiba can sell Westinghouse to Volkswagen.

Well, don't mess with nuclear technology, leads to problems only.

@Xenic

As long as radioactive elements Toshiba used for its miniplant loses its radiactivity in a max of 120 years, problem is very low risky.
