AMIStore Latest Developments in 2017

Hello

I have many new developments planned for AMIStore in 2017.

The latest is a unified AmiSphere user account login. It is now part of the AmiSphereServer and once you login to a session you can access any program that uses AmiSphere credentials.

Here is the new ReAction based login window:

This will now replace the login system inside AMIStore.

There are currently three applications developed that use the AmiSphere login system: AMIStore, Updater, AmiSphere Prefs.

Updater is a new application that keeps track of your AMIStore purchases and also your Enhancer Software system updates. It will let you know when an update is ready to download and keep your files up to date. Updater replaces the old "My Purchases and Downloads" section built into AMIStore.

Click here to view the new Updater and AmiSphere login in action with AMIStore:

All A-EON Software will be updated this year to have a new menu option entitled "Check for updates.." which will start Updater automatically and download the latest update from the AmiSphere Server.

Here you can see the new AmiSphere Prefs where you can configure your user account:

This replaces the old section inside AMIStore.

Special thanks to AmigaDeveloper.com Team member, zzd10h for working hard on these ReAction based UI for these projects.

@kyle

Thank you The AmigaDeveloper.com Team are putting a lot of work and effort to create a cohesive system where all our app, utilities, drivers, libraries work seamlessly with each other. AMIStore, AmiSphere and Enhancer Software (including Warp3D Nova and Radeon) are all part of this one large development project.

@amigakit

Is this the first steps towards a leaner native GUI more suitable for OS3 systems?

@Rob

Yes that's correct. We are using our new gadget/classes set we are concurrently building for OS3 (which have already appeared on the OS4 version of the Enhancer Software). We have had to take this "plan B" route a year ago because we couldn't get any cooperation for the existing ReAction gadgets that exist on OS3 / OS4. So now we are building all our apps for OS3 and OS4 on our own gadgets and classes. The overhead should be much leaner for lower powered OS3 systems.

i think it is known that parts of os4 such as reaction classes are prohibited to be ported to other platforms. which attitude puts up the question, why to try establish reaction as a cross platform standard nevertheless, despite all the resistance. especially that there actually are cross platform standards in existence (boopsi/mui/zune). i expect, that it would be in most cases enough to develop guis against those standards, rather that yet again reinvent, replicate and replace classes one by one. at least i dont see anything particular in the above examples that wouldnt look achievable with already openly available classes.

but well, to everybody his own, good luck with the effort.

@wawa

Well, when I looked into this, there are far too many loose questions regarding financial matters, ownership, legal and source code availablity to these existing gadgets and classes. I for one would not like to build a new house on sandy ground but the efforts expended so far by us will be worth it in the end to get solid foundations in place.

Maybe we shouldn't digress from the purpose of this thread..

Great work to everyone involved with AmiStore!! Is there any chance of linking the "Update" feature in to AmiUpdate? Even just having AmiUpdate check the versioning of the apps and have it tell me to go into the App and "Check for Updates" to download the newer version would be very helpful.

Are there also plans to improve or better "create" AMIstore web frontend? So we can browse the software, check screenshots, see the price, requirements, etc (similar to iTunes App store)?

Updater already does the same thing as you are suggesting, it checks versions of software locally installed and compares them remotely on our server. It alerts users of new updates and new software they are eligible for. They can then quickly update both the System files for Enhancer Software and any AMIStore purchases.

@amigakit

I would be nice to have one central Update system istead of having to check them both.
In AmiUpdate preferences there is the possibilty to add a server, maybe in a future it will be possible to integrate? Or make it the other way around..

You are right, this parallel development of components is very frustrating.

I think the main reason behind making Updater is that A-EON has full control over its features and development. With the Enhancer Software pack A-EON has made it quite clear that they target both OS4 and OS3.x to establish viable business. So they would be left with no updating system for OS3.x because they have no say in the AmiUpdate development (I doubt Hyperion would be interested in porting AmiUpdate over to OS3.x, a system in direct competition with their flagship product; they probably don't even have the licence from Rigo to do that).

It sounds all very logical, and sad.. I don't know how to comment on that.. maybe

United we stand, divided we do businessesses

It would be good to have a shop window for people that don't own the hardware but would like to see what software is available.

I think it would be a good idea to get Hyperion to include Amistore in future OS4.x releases and when the 68k version is ready to work with Cloanto to get it added into Amiga Forever and for Ján to do the same with Amikit. Cast the net as wide as you can.

You are right... But it's normal outside of Amiga world too. Or otherwise Microsoft would have allowed Adobe (Flash/Reader), etc to roll-out updates through Windows Update.
