Are there also plans to improve or better "create" AMIstore web frontend? So we can browse the software, check screenshots, see the price, requirements, etc (similar to iTunes App store)?

The iTunes App store has a huge budget to work with. I would guess that AmiStore is done on a shoe-string budget (like most Amiga stuff these last years).

What you are asking for is for them to create TWO stores, one which runs on AmigaOS, and one which runs on a web server. That's maybe double the cost, or 50% more anyway. (*)

Also, having a web-based stored will surely make it a MUCH bigger target for hackers & criminals. By having AmiStore only run on AmigaOS, they at least benefit from security through obscurity! (Hopefully that isn't their only security though...)

(* And yes, I realise that AmiStore already has to have a back-end server on the internet for the AmigaOS-based app to work. But a large chunk of the programming work will be presenting this to the user in a reliable & good-looking way.)

Actually I am not.

I am not asking about another way to buy the software. For buying apps the native AMIstore is all what we need. As you can see above I deliberately omitted from the list "buying stuff".
But I would like to have the chance to browse the whole AMIstore catalogue online, check what software is there, find info about updates, hardware requirements, screenshots etc.

Something like this page http://www.ppaint.com/ just without "Buy download" button, but with better image viewer.

This should be not so hard to make, coz look of all pages would be unified (just like App store)
logo, name, version, specifications, features, hardware req., screenshots.

What do you think now?

@ChrisH

You can already buy Ppaint 68k and RadeonHD driver licenses via the A-EON site but I don't think ExiE was suggesting that you could buy through the site.

edit.

While I was composing this post and doing half a dozen other thing ExiE confirmed what I though he meant.

Basically the online catalogue would be there for the benefit of people thinking of buying A-EON hardware or OS4 to run under WinUAE. If your talking to someone and they're interested in getting into OS4 and ask what software they can buy it's better to be able to direct them to the Amistore site than have to tell them that you need to be already running OS4 to access the store and see what they can buy. Which option do you think its more likely to result in that person becoming a new user?

I am considering using www.amistore.net to display product descriptions and screenshots, however, not pricing. With complex digital download VAT rules introduced recently by the EU, VAT rates vary by the country you download the software from. This is the reason that AmiStore app shows you the ex VAT price until you login from your country.

@amigakit

You could put the price in GBP price excluding VAT, I assume the base prices are determined in GBP.

Ooops. Sorry for misunderstanding you :-/

Well, it wasn't obvious to me. (I wrongly assumed an "etc" was implied.)

If the the server doesn't need to handle user login or identity verification, doesn't need to verify a secure connection to the user, nor process payment, etc, then it would be much simpler to implement. (AmigaKit seem to agree with you too.)

I would then suggest that you delay the display of pricing, until the person browsing the site enters their location, and add a note that indicates why the location data is needed, to accurately show the prices of each product, as well as shipping prices, for any products that include a physical item, not just a digital download.

Having such a site will no doubt be a valuable addition for your business, though I do not know how many users are running AmigaOS4.x via WinUAE/AmigaForever.

For the next version of AMIStore App Store, the Credit Card payment will use the AmiSphere Payments system instead of opening a web browser.

It features a standard ReAction based window which can be used to add funds to your AmiSphere account for payment of AMIStore products. We will shortly be localising this to various languages ready and the hope is that it will make it easier and quicker to make credit/debit card payments in AMIStore.

@zzd10h

Yes you did excellent work on the UI

@Kyle

Paypal will still need to be through the web browser which AMIStore will auto-load.
