My SOBJS: has python25.so and ibz.so.1.2.3, no libz.so.1, but executing Python yields complaints about not loading libz.so.1 and libpython25.so.

3.OS4.1FE_ssd:> LISTDYNDEP OS4.1FE_ssd:c/Python
OS4.1FE_ssd:c/Python V2
libpython25.so
libexpat.so
libz.so.1
libdl.so
libpthread.so
libgcc.so
libc.so
3.OS4.1FE_ssd:>LIST SOBJS:#?python#?
Directory "sobjs:" on Saturday 08-Apr-17
libpython25.so 2046748 ----rwed 22-Nov-14 23:00:00
3.OS4.1FE_ssd:>

On a lark I XCOPY libz.so.1.2.3 libz.so.1 which then got me to a Python prompt.

Question 1: Where is my libz.so.1?
Question 2: Why the complaint about libpython25.so which is there?

@ggw

it seems your sobjs have been somehow removed.
checking with os4.1 FEu1.

there is a script which fixes broken softlinks in your sobjs folder. here it is. just save it and start it from inside your sys:sobjs folder. asuming that you have not changed the system default libs!:

Quote:

If Exists libbz2.so
delete libbz2.so
EndIf
makelink libbz2.so libbz2.so.1.0.4

If Exists libbz2.so.1.0
delete libbz2.so.1.0
EndIf
makelink libbz2.so.1.0 libbz2.so.1.0.4

If Exists libpng.so
delete libpng.so
EndIf
makelink libpng.so libpng12.so

If Exists libz.so
delete libz.so
EndIf
makelink libz.so libz.so.1.2.3

If Exists libz.so.1
delete libz.so.1
EndIf
makelink libz.so.1 libz.so.1.2.3

If Exists libz.so.1.2
delete libz.so.1.2
EndIf
makelink libz.so.1.2 libz.so.1.2.3

If Exists libpython.so
delete libpython.so
EndIf
makelink libpython.so libpython25.so

regards...

@MichaelMerkel

Your help was perfect.

Soft links are most useful with shared objects. I don't use them for my usual Amiga experience (nor at my work where I am a software developer) because of the extra work when involved with backups and confusion in coworkers who lack working knowledge of the implications of soft links.

Since I don't know why my setup lacked the softlinks in SOBJS:, a reinstall is probably on the horizon.

Thank you.
