| Just noticed on the Vice website that version 3.1 has been released. Thus far binaries are only available for 68k/OS3.x, but typically the Vice developers release for all formats at similar times so hopefully versions for other supported Amiga based systems (68k AROS, x86-64 AROS, arm AROS, x86 AROS, MorphOS and AmigaOS 4.x) won't be too far away.
p.s. bit of an unrelated sidebar, but interestingly (in my opinion at least) my tablet will autocorrect AmigaOS, AROS and MorphOS to use correct combinations of upper and lower case characters. This never happened until some very recent software updates. Nice to see this sort of recognition, even if it is just a small thing. |

Just a quick update, but versions for AROS, MorpOS, and OS4 are now available for download. |

Thanks. Will try it! Last releases (2.4 and newer) were too slow and buggy for me. |

I agree. I just downloaded the one from OS4Depot then a newer one on Aminet. They are all buggy for me and crash. It looked useful since I wanted to try out Plus/4 emulation. I'm starting to agree with my friend that OS4 software is too buggy. Think I will go back to my Mac! |

Huh? "OS4 software" is too buggy?
It´s VICE 3.x source code that is buggy in this case, it´s simple as that. Maybe it´s time to (finally) leave the open source software field and concentrate on an own software line (as I told all the years). |

Vice 2.3 works great. I was even able to setup C128 with CP/M emulation running WordStar, Sargon, Rogue and several minor utilities. Fast, stable and compatible. |

You mean to create new Commodore emulator like Frodo? Unlikely to happen as it would need too much work. Most emulators we use now are open source ports - DosBox, MAME, Hatari or UAE - to name few good ones. |

Whatever you do, do not at least report the bug to the author. They might otherwise fix it |

AmigaOS4.x is a lot less forgiving then Linux is, if there is crash in Linux program you get core dump, if crashes on AmigaOS4.1 you might get Grim Rapier, or it might freeze. In any case the information you get from a core dump and the information you get from a grim reaper is the same, a stack trace to where it crashed.
https://blog.xojo.com/2015/08/17/take-a-core-dump-what-to-do-when-your-app-crashes-on-linux/
If crashes on AmigaOS, it should crash on Linux, if does not it has to the port of the program that is bad, if crashes in Linux and not in AmigaOS version, they might fixed something.
If computer just crash at random, I might be time to check the hardware. PSU/RAM. Typical AmigaOS programming mistakes, not closing program if libraries failed to open, run snoopy before the program start, and see if fails to open libraries, devices or fonts, bitmaps.
The coder did not translate the Linux paths, and so the program is stuck in world between Linux and Amiga, fails to understand the typical work:ddd/ddd.
Problem should be easy to spot in Snoopy, monitoring different DOS functions.
Program might be compiled with dynlinks and the .so files might not be installed correct, objdump should be able to tell you what's missing.
objdump –R objdump –T objdump –D
This options objdump options should provide some information. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 31-Jul-2017 at 09:05 AM. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 31-Jul-2017 at 09:02 AM.

Yes, when my friend tried to run software on his AmigaOne, something would go wrong.
I have to admit that I was testing the Plus/4 emulator. I know it was an unpopular machine but do they code it to crash on purpose? Haha very funny.
Well I also tested the popular C64 emulator. Just as bad. 3.0 freezes. 2.4.20 crashes when trying to change prefs.
If 3.0 is that bad then how did they release it and why was an OS4 version compiled? It's not that hard to test. I ran it straight out of the box and it crashed straight away. Time for deletion. |

And where would I find 2.3? Not on any Aminet OS4Depot that I can see. |

Well I'd like to report a bug but to who? About three people are mentioned and there is no emails listed. I was going to send off a crashlog but then just gave up. |

Amiga is tiny community of hobbyist, all the feed back you can get has great value, Linux, MacOS, Windows, has lot of users, and developers get lot of feedback. |
We may be tiny but that is no excuse to be sloppy. As I already mentioned VICE 3.0 crashes straight away so that immediately failed the test. How was it uploaded in that state? Did the compiler test it? Do they have a fresh install to give it a proper test?
There's obviously some effort that has gone into the Amiga version. 2.4 does work but when you try to change settings it crashes. I tried to change some ROM files but it just kept tripping it up.
I must have wasted almost two hours downloading and trying to get three different versions to work. In the end I just gave up and downloaded a VICE for my OSX PPC. It hasn't crashed yet but I'm still trying to figure it out. Nothing like the real thing. |

That's is the policy of OS4Depot.net to only have one version on OS4Depot.net, that's way I created my on Depot for mplayer development during the bounty.
And this is way my version of mplayer is named liveforit-mplayer, to avoid this problem. developers have different taste, that's way there are called forks. _________________ http://lifeofliveforit.blogspot.no/ Facebook::LiveForIt Software for AmigaOS |
