Setting up a limited company with this name is easy, wait for the Amiga 5000 machine

@eliyahu

Is the same mattew leaman of amigakit? Some strange things are happening recently.. piccasso96, phase5 return, cloanto buys amiga trademarks, amigakit becomes amiga technology.. I hope this will not be a way to form an "holy alliance" to stop vampire project, but I seriously fear that this will be the purpose of all that movement.

@thread

it appears matthew has also registered amigatechnology.com, which has the following placeholder text:

Amiga paranoia.

If anything, the Vampire is rekindling interest and affording opportunities.

In case anyone was interested in the nitty gritty. I can't really see any reason for starting another company. Why not just rename the old Leaman company, and in the process retire the "trading as" AmigaKit name?

It's absolutely true that vampire boards are starting to renew the amiga passion and maybe increasing the active amiga user base. I'm not sure all players in the amiga market (a-eon, cloanto, hyperion) have the same idea

If anything, Vampire is giving legacy holdouts delusions they were unsure were justified with Natami, and now they are convinced.

BTW - Whens the damned thing going to have a properly functioning fpu?

Because Vampire fanatics are crazy enough to think their preferred project has the potential to be competitive on a performance basis and they are paranoid enough to think others are threatened by them.
Why do you think lunatics seem to stab people at random? Because THEY feel threatened.

It probably is AeonKit's take on the Amiga trademark grab fest, and they don't want to risk any real assets if the thing blows up in their face? And as Andreas Wolf wrote over at Morph.zone in the X5000 thread, it could be where AeonKit is supposed to formally merge? It has really been the same people using two names/corporate entities for years, and as Andreas Wolf points out, a formal merge was not very shockingly discussed some time ago ("In order to bundle forces, A-EON Technology considers acquiring AmigaKit.")

Really? Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. I don't have a Vampire nor do I own a PPC Amiga, so I have no bias either way.

The amount of progress the Vampire project has made in such a short time since release seems to be quite remarkable. AmigaOS 4.x and related hardware, etc., seems to move at a snails pace in comparison.

I don't see anybody thinking Vampire can approach modern processor speed (even PPC) any time soon. If someone does, then I agree, that's crazy.

As for thinking others are threatened - it is clear that AmigaOS 4.x and NG Amiga's potential for growth is through the existing "Classic" user base. Anything that makes Classic users happy with Classic hardware/software (like the Vampire) is clearly a threat to NG Amiga growth.

I have to laugh with this 'threat' talk as honestly the majority of AmigaOS4.x users are surprise, surprise also AmigaOS3 fans/ users and personally I am more than happy with any development for my favourite OS (from 1.1 to 4.1 & beyond)

@klx300r

I don't think the "threat" is pulling existing AmigaOS 4.x users back to Classics. I think the threat is the Vampire providing Classic-only users with hardware that keeps them happy staying with Classic, and perhaps reducing the chance they might give NG hardware a try.

If Classic activity continues to increase that could also draw resources away from NG. Vendors and programmers may feel the larger Classic market might be more lucrative, thus focus more resources in that direction.

I'm shocked that Hyperion can stay in business with the # of users AmigaOS 4.x has - not sure how they do it. I do think the upcoming Tabor board will help increase the user base some if the price is kept low.

I don't see a threat at all. Many have both and are happy that new software is being made for both. I bet they jump on the opportunity to make money on both ends. After all, why not?
