@all

Thought I would repeat this link, as it might get lost where I first posted it.
And since many folks repeatedly ask about the silence from Hyperion...

Thanks for link!

4.2 is really long awaited version number.

It took 6 years between OS3.1 and 3.5, but it is nearly an entire decade between 4.1 and 4.2...

Good to see there is some life left in Hyperion and Amiga. Onward to 4.2

yawn.. anyone spotted anyting we have not known or suspect already? good thing those who thought, open sourcing of the os had any chance, are being presented with an (apparently) informed statement.

Eh, a little optimistic about Amiga Inc's ability to defend its trademark, now that they have let it lapse.

But a positive response about the laptop project is nice.
That project has many members focused on Linux, but I'd like to see all NG PPC OS' ported to it.
The thread count of the T2080 is vastly greater than the T5040.

Should SMP be realized, it will make a really nice system (personally I use desktops less and less these days).

I like how the role of Hyperion directors' (??) consists entirely of repeating the mantra
"We have an exclusive, worldwide, perpetual royalty free license to AmigaOS" ... "We have an exclusive, worldwide, perpetual royalty free license to AmigaOS" ... "We have an exclusive, worldwide, perpetual royalty free license to AmigaOS".

By the way, the code to Amiga OS 3.1 is out there: had anyone a real interest in "open sourcing" it, it would take no time to do so, and attempts from Hyperion to prevent it would be laughable:

picture those.... "directors"... undergoing the effort (and financial burden) to sustain an international copyright case in a legal court, trying to prove that someone is damaging their quasi-shell company by publishing a bunch of 25 years old text files written for a long dead architecture.

These are of limited value (too old fork to be useable now for anything bigger than few utils). Hyperion has sources cleaned by Olaf Barthel in the mid 1990s, all OS releases after 3.1 were based on them.

I guess there is error in transcript:
Quote:
One of the very few things we cannot do with AmigaOS.

should be in fact "One of the very few things we do not want to do with AmigaOS (3.1)."

nothing new...

if they cannot open source 3.1 or simply do not want is something to discuss

I think second

as always big numbers (150 developers) but it says nothing about real activity right now

@pavlor

the sources would be interesting to improve Aros 68k, apart from that close to zero value

MorphOS team already annonuced ISA change with 68k support only done by UAE so for them no value anymore too

for Vampire/Apollo (as long as they concentrate on 3.1) there would be some value, one of the reasons why it will never open sourced you do not sell a cow as long as you can milk it

@OlafS25

I meant "public" V40/42 sources aren´t in shape for bigger projects. Improved fork by Olaf Barthel would be of interest for 68k crowd, of course.

Hyperion doesn´t own OS3 sources. Their licence allows use to "develop, sell and modify", not open source.

They are of enormous value: their value is pissing off hyperion.

By the way.... what happened to that ludicrous "selling share" thing?

There were 8 updates since 4.1 so far, not counting the amipdate phase, so please don't obsess about numbers and years..... and one of thoe updates included the new console which is bigger advance than anything added to 3.1 in 3.5

Please, re-read my comment... I explicitly wrote about time distance between version numbers. Sure, Hyperion uses so weird numbering even outside world notices.

I thought it was reassuring to see that they are "not married to any CPU architecture".
