| Hi all
How can Microsoft be so successful with such a shity os. I mean over 2hours to do a version update from 1607 to 17 what ever it is now. Would of been quicker to do a fresh install at this rate. 16gb am i7 so much for multi core windows just seems to waste resources with every new version it gets more bloated. Moan over

I couldn't agree more! If I didn't need Windows to run a few programs that are important to me, that I can't get equivalent Linux programs, I would remove it from every computer I own.

I could not believe it when I heard that Microsoft was NOT being forced to break up their monopoly position in the operating system sales category. What a massive fail for the government on that score. Probably several people were paid off with huge sums of money to buy that decision and avoid the breakup of the wealthiest company in the world. That was a very sad day for me, though I know some people will say that NOT breaking up Microsoft, or in some way breaking up their monopoly of the operating system on almost every computer sold throughout the world, was a good thing, I will never agree with them. |

Now imagine you wanted to just pick your laptop up and go somewhere, when that got forced on you.
I've fished out a load of old hardware so I have 'upgraded' to win98 recently. Silent PSU, silent cpu, solid-state disk-on-module. Tons of room and it's nice and snappy.
Of course, if I connected it to the net and downloaded a bunch of stuff, it'd get hosed in a heartbeat, but it's only about writing and playing a few old games. My Win7 box has been reinstalled with Linux. _________________ "Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard, be evil." |

There's your answer. Yes, 2017 now, you must be tired. Your Windows 10 machine has been updating for the last 410 years! The update has crossed generations, time zones and continents over the ages. You have a right to complain! |

The worst thing is that they're also very ingrained in the education system. Students don't learn to use computers, they learn how to use Windows. |

I noticed that my laptop at work struggles, downloading and installing things in the background, windows updates uses way too much CPU power.
Windows is hard to get proper over view over, I have no idea what scripts should be seduced task and what was added latter, I'm also having problem knowing what servers needs to run and not in services, and what all other 1000 programs that run in background do, I feel less safe running windows then AmigaOS, just because I know what every thing do on AmigaOS. That's true. I was talking to my young niece years ago about a word processor. She didn't know what that was. She used a Word. |

And Word isn't even the best one out there. The Ribbon interface is horrible. LibreOffice is cluttered but functionally very useful and Pages is in my opinion by far the best Word Processor. |

I agree. If people find it struggles, just disable the intelligent brackground Download service. Thats the only issue I fine with the way they handle update downloads.
Theres lots of tweaks that can be done to systems. First one, no one ever even notices. Power Management is defaulted to Balanced. I have set it to Performance (maxes everything out) in my own custom setup image. Last edited by F0L on 28-Jun-2017 at 08:56 AM. Last edited by F0L on 28-Jun-2017 at 08:55 AM.

That's the problem with Windows 10. It'll work fine if you babysit the settings. And I've had updates that reset some of my settings, which was annoying. Compatibility is also wonky, sometimes, it just doesn't work and you'd have better ruck running older games on Wine then on actual Windows. Stardew Valley even started refusing to run after the latest update for some reason. Works fine on my Linux and Mac machines... |
