| This rather modest accelerator has been overlooked by many but it is great - cheap, highly compatible, has an RTC, gives a taste of faster CPU and can facilitate an FPU, and it keeps with the tradition of Amiga not needing much RAM - you learn to live within the 2MB CHIP / 4MB FAST memory.
This one I have soldered in a 40MHz crystal for the FPU, I have also replaced the 32.768KHz RTC oscillator and the VL2020 rechargeable battery. Finally added the Freescale MC68882 @ 40MHz, not before giving the board and all the contacts a good clean.
Runs very stable indeed. For HW Pr0n, please check out these clean, high resolution pictures.:

I have a Blizzard 1230 IV in my A1200 (which currently, sadly, resides in the loft) and I must admit I will never part with it, even though the things seem to go for silly money on eBay. I bought mine in '96 I think. I didn't know they made an 020 version, but looking at the Amiga Hardware Database it seems there's a 4MB add-on board? I guess those really are like rocking horse poo...
If only I had the room I'd get my old girl out of of her prison. :( _________________ Blog |

| As beautiful as this card is, I need some more RAM to run some more AGA demos so have gone back the the 1230MKIV. So the 1220/4 is on eBay here. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

I used to have the phase5 Blizzard 1230. It was great, even the packaging was top-notch, black and heavy corrugated cardboard with foam padding, and a proper printed manual.
Replaced it with a DCE Blizzard 1240. The packaging was pretty standard, photocopied manual, and I had to return it for a replacement because it was faulty. Still, it powers my A1200 to this day._________________ --------------- AmigaOne X5000 P5020 2Ghz, OS 4.1 AmigaOne XE G4 800mhz, OS 4.1 A1200T 40Mhz 68040, OS 3.9 |

| I am sorry guys I couldn't bring myself to do it. I love that little 4MB card. way I see it is demos either run really well on the Blizzard 1220/4 or they don't run at all. The Blizzard 1230 with 16+MB RAM gives you a taste of the 68060 demos but it merely teases you with low FPS renders. Alas I have put the Blizzard 1230MK IV up for sale and the 1220/4 is staying put. Link to listing for those interested. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

I have quite a few 1230IVs and they are my preferred weapon of choice mostly cus I can hump 32MB and fit the SCSI internally with a port on the back of the computer so I can free up the PCMCIA for ethernet. Of all the cards I have owned the 1230IV has never caused conflict issues like say the Apollo or frame rate drops in games like the GVP. I have never owned a 1220 cus I have been lucky to get my hands on 1230's and the SCSI KIT.
Not sure what demos you are talking about. I run all my collection from the A500 with no acceleration. I have more joy with the base 500 than I do with the A4000/040 with PicassoIV. In truth its not worth bothering with an expanded machine for demos. Maybe we are at cross purposes. I decrunch on the 4000 and then play on the 500. I tend to keep disk copies on the 4000 in adf for ease of finding.
Problems with the old demos is the bootblock and the way memory was allocated. Dunno.
Well done on selling the 1230IV. Nice to see the kit still in circulation. The 1220 isn't that common so maybe looking after it may be a serious consideration. Certainly when you have something that works well with your system you do get use to the way it works better for you. And that is important.
