So with 4.2 being released relatively soon and so much work going into that product. Whats next? I know Amiga Inc. was planning an AmigaOS 5.0 but since they are pretty much non-existent anymore where do we go from here? AmigaOS 4.0 has done a great job of keeping amigan sated and satisfied for years. Does Hyperion plan to put that much dedication into AmigaOS 5.0 when that comes to fruition.

@RobertJDohnert

My guess is that you're going to see the AmigaOS 4.X name for a long time. Not a judgment on the pace of development, just my idea.

@WolfpackN64

Ahhh I see similar to how we saw OS X from Apple for 16 years. Not an actual versioning but a sorta stable rock solid release indicator?

where do we go from here?

I have an idea: we could pretend to be a team of developers, slap a stolen trademark on our also-ran Linux distribution (so we can stop using that stolen NeXT trademark we used until now), lie our asses off about what we're going to do and who we already made distribution deals with and basically insult everybody's intelligence. If things go bad, we could simply hide in the basement again for a while.

How's that for a plan?

@RobertJDohnert

Kind of, but slower
But maybe they'll get to OS 5 in15 years or so.
MacOS' version numbering is getting ridiculous anyway.

@cgutjahr

BUT I kind of LIKE NextStep, I mean OSX, er...MacOS (again, even IF its still...).
I really do, much more so than OS8 or 9.

As to AmigaOS 5, they could always call whatever gets released next OS5 .

How about

A) You know nothing about my business so stay the hell out of it. Currently we have 15 developers working ob Black Lab sooooo yes we have a TEAM

B) No one stole ANYTHING.

C) No one has LIED about anything. We have tons of distribution deals and lots of consulting clients. Once again, you arent involved in my company in any way shape or form nor would you ever be. I tend to be involved with people that are reliable and dedicated, not a shoddy wannabe reporter that's lazy as hell. Wanna talk insulting everyones intelligence? If they want that how about they read amiganews.de, there NOW their intelligence can be insulted.

D) This thread is about the future of the AmigaOS not your perceived or imaginary slights. So as per forum rules stay on topic.

E) Thats a splendid idea, how about you do head back to your basement and let the adults have their conversation.

Now that is a PLAN

Thanks

I'm still waiting for the Dohnert Chrome port promised for delivery
in January 2014.

Talk is cheap.

@pjs

And you guys decided to put your resources into another project. And better yet, one that never really came to fruition. Sooooo, you got what you paid for.

@WolfpackN64

Sure, in 2013 I announced a project to port the Chromium base project to AmigaOS 4.1. Well funding was needed. The community decided to invest their funds in another web browser development project from a "known" developer. So I abandoned the project and some people are butthurt over it. I understand WHY they did it and I have no bones with their decision. They saw it as the way to move forward. The only problem is it really didnt come to fruition. But I moved on, got busy and got more customers and decided to focus on my target market, the Linux and enterprise Linux market.

@WolfpackN64

Now the Amiga is more of a hobby for me. Something to work with and play with when I have the time.

Mr. Dohnert has a history. If you didn't witness the entire OS4 Linux soap opera, my (and apparently pjs') recommendation would be to just ignore him. He's annoying, but he loses interest after a while.

My foray into the Amiga community and whatever I have had planned or suggested they acted like I was a settler trying to give smallpox infested blankets to the natives
