Phase 5 certainly didn't turn up with anything interesting to show by all accounts and the fact that they turned up at around 4pm during the middle of the Dave Haynie/Ron Nicholson/Jeff Porter presentation which had everyone enthralled didn't help endear them to others in attendance.
@Tripos
I have seen a few photos of the back of the cards from others who have posted on Facebook but be aware the cards were non functional. Some dude called Roberto Rogel who I am guessing is their PR dude posted another one on Facebook showing the "massive" interest in their desk when they turned up. To be fair it looked like when a car boot sale opened first thing in the morning and you get the hawkers round their desk fishing around and in PR terms, of course they was massive interest, everyone was curious to see what exactly they would show, you cant really put anything other than that type of spin on something.
They did have other equipment with them and apparently nothing was set up properly and the cards were by all accounts certainly not in a working state
Personally for a company which is planning to release such expensive cards and with such poor public perception you would have thought they would have made much more of an effort to be professional turn up on time and also turn up with something more tangible than PCB boards that were missing a lot of the required chips. For me the vampire impressed big time so as far as the classic side of things go there is no contest between them and Phase 5
If people want PPC in their Amigas then forget Phase 5 and go for the A1222. Both the Vampire and A-EON are at least professional in their dealings with Joe Public with a good attitude and also more importantly are reliable

This should also work for the X1000 also, I did also test this out on the Sam 460 I also have but sadly Wazp3D is too slow to run the game at a reasonable speed.

Oh my, this is horrible! Can't believe it's so slow even on the archaic resolution of 640×480. How many fps do you get, 12-20? Just did a quick test and under PMAC G4 1.6Ghz, R9800Pro on AGP2x with Wazp3D on 1280x1024@24bit triple buffering I have to set max fps limit at 60 otherwise the game is unplayable due to its sheer speed. Is it true that Sam460 couldn't handle the game under wazp3D?_________________

If someone can tell me how to display the FPS in the game then by all means I am happy to report back, please bear in mind however my knowledge of Amiga matters is more as a gamer rather than someone who can code and is familiar with shell commands so please bear this in mind in any replies please
Certainly i don't find the game any slower than the Playstation 1 or Sega Saturn versions which i both have and have played over the years, but equally in a game like this and I realise this is clearly subjective, surely too much speed can hinder one's progress especially on the more advanced tracks rendering the game a tad unplayable?
On a separate note and you have to pardon my ignorance in matters relating to MorphOS, (eager to try this out on the X5000 btw!) but why would you be using Wazp3D when you have an option called Goa I believe and it is from what i have read quicker than the original Warp3D.
From MorphOS website: "Goa is included with MorphOS for compatibility reasons and represents a reimplementation of the Warp3D.library as well as the Warp3DPPC.library. It sits on top of MorphOS' native 3D API and allows to use various applications and games that were primarily written for PowerUP accelerator cards by Phase5 & DCE."
From Biclondon.com "Warp3D was an accelerated 3D library for AmigaOS. It is emulated on the top of MorphOS' own 3D API. Goa's main features:Convert all vertex data formats used by Warp3D. Handle misaligned data sent by buggy applications, without relying on the builtin kernel emulation. Support for many Warp3D API misusages. Most would only work with a specific graphic chip. Support for Warp3D internal structure hacking. This is a requirement because even the Warp3D SDK examples show such behaviour. Very accurate emulation. All known Warp3D applications run. Extremely fast. On the same hardware, Goa is always faster than the original Warp3D."
On OS4, even despite recent updates to the Warp3d and Warp3dPPC library through the ReWarp project which have improved compatability issues allowing me to run extra games, there are still some issues which is why I have to run something like Wazp3d if needed. Sadly i would like to have this running under proper Warp3D but until I can, i have to rely on what is available right?
Personally I am happy I can get to finally play the Amiga version, it looks stunning compared to the PS and Saturn versions and it makes you wonder had this come out at earlier in the Amiga's history, we may have had more people buying a PPC Accelerator card and things may have been a tad different, i certainly remember seeing a review in Amiga Active saying this was one of the main reasons to get a PPC card.

do you also sometimes wonder what if quake was first released for powerup instead of pc, people would see it as a main reason to buy ppc boards for amiga instead of an allround productivity pc?Last edited by wawa on 03-Jan-2018 at 09:48 PM.

Audio induced lockups on OS4/A1
George Breese OF VIA was part of this and knows how difficult this work was. Hyperion had more than one of their boards you know.
Why is there this constant need to attack Troika's history? They've publically posted their entire history here you know. for the record
Ben's thank you for the non-believers

| The best solution in my mind for the general Amiga user would be a reproduced A1200 compatible with the oodles of hardware customization options available (or nearly so). At least it would support the vast majority of the Amiga ecosystem (3.1 through 4.x, etc...).

Sadly it appears not as I do have the latest versions installed. What happens is that I can get the settings menu, can start the game, I get to the first opening Wipeout 2097 screen and then when it gets to the title screen it goes blank.
You hear the sound effects in the background and that’s it. Hence why I am using Wazp3d 😉 _________________ Amigaone X5000/20 4GB Radeon RX 550 Polaris 12 AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition Update 1 Amiga 1200 Workbench 3.1.4 Amiga CD32 |

I have no doubt that had Quake or even Doom before it had been released earlier in the Amiga’s history we may have had a slightly different outcome.
Sadly what was all too common in the Amiga community was the idea that everything should run on a 1MB A500 which in many ways prevented developers from even porting stuff across. Even in the late 90’s it wasn’t uncommon to see letters in Amiga Format moaning that software couldn’t run on their entry level machines.
As great as the A500 was and still is today it’s worth remembering that it was only ever an entry level machine, the irony is that it’s really only now thanks to stuff like Vampire accelerators that we are actually seeing people wanting to upgrade these machines.

Nice to see that my Wazp3D can be usefull even for X5000 users
>(Morphos) why would you be using Wazp3D when you have an option called Goa [...] quicker than the original Warp3D.
Because Morphos on some mac hardware dont have Goa so no Warp3D implementation at all So BsZili ported Wazp3D to Morphos : so I can play WipeOut on MacBook This version use OpenGL for hardware rendering (like the Aros & WinUAE versions) so is fast
Wazp3D for OS4 is not built with OpenGL for hardware rendering This is because the only OpenGL that existed for OS4 was miniGL that use Warp3D Wazp3D->MiniGL->Warp3D : no sense
Anyway the real problem is not here: Warp3D v5 for OS4 is not exactly backward compatible with Warp3D v4 for os3/warpos: some functions are missing or not implemented the same way So progs made for os3/warpos may not works if they call one of those deficient functions
This is why i made this http://aminet.net/package/driver/video/PatchWarp3D that redirect missing v4 calls to v5 calls
PatchWarp3D was included in ReWarp sources So I dont know why WipeOut is not working on X5000 (but I suppose the x5000 Warp3D miss another v4 features)

I was just about to post but thellier partially beat me to it :) Anyhow, there is no goa/warp3d/rave3d support on gfx cards of R300 chipset and upwards. However on MorphOS, WinUAE and AROS wazp had access to the gfx hardware while on OS4 (perhaps?) it's pure software render/cpu intensive, I am not so sure about it.
TBH I still think that ps1 looks faster (although it might be due to lower resolution). Why don't you fire up a ps1 emulation on OS4 and run wipeout 2097 this way as well, to have a more direct comparison.
Don't know how to display fps on wipeout but from the what I've seen it's definitely lower than 20 fps on your video (24 is the bare minimum to have a smooth gameplay experience, the more the better of course). _________________
