There is a bounty to develop Opensource PPC laptop. First step gola is 12,600.00.

1.Hardware components research, analysis of the architecture, and design of the electrical schematics [12600 euro, 30 net days];
2.Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Gerber format delivery of the electrical schematics [11950 euro, 30 net days];
3.Production and delivery of five working prototypes [ 8800 euro, 40 net days];
4.Hardware testing using software provided by the producer (ACube) [14400 euro, 30 net days];
5.Pre-certification CE certification [12.500 euro].

Those who are interested might want to contribute.

@utri007

from their web page:

What happens if the campaign fails?
As stated above, we will not be able to refund the donors in any case. Because of that, if the money collected is not enough to fund this research we will use it for another goal within the mission of the organization.

Good work if you can get it!

Sounds like a Borg like Kickstarter of fund the collective and a product may emerge or we may just assimilate your money into the mission of the organisation!

Could just be the way that is phrased but that is not great for their marketing!

@BigD

Yes, you aren't being promised a product, or your money back.
You heard right.
And I'm still donating myself, and participating.

Each stage is relatively modest.
Already, in less than one day, almost 10% of the funds needed for the initial schematics has been raised.
Personally, I can't donate anymore money for a couple of weeks, but I'll do so again, asap.

Once the schematics have been prepared by Acube, we move the next stage, and hopefully the next, etc.

In a way, this is as speculative as supporting Kalamatee (without the appeal to your emotions or sentiments).
You DON'T know if this will bring us anything, BUT if it might....

THAT is why I'm supporting it.
It just MIGHT happen.

AND if it does, it will be a portable PPC computing device that is more powerful than any previous product from Acube OR any past, current, or announced future product from Aeon.

Built by the community, for the community.

No guarantees, no promises.
I think its kind of exciting, so I'm supporting it.

@Thread

Limiting first goal at only 30 net days proves they are newbies in asking money to public...

No Raffaele, we have not set up any deadline for collecting contributions.

You most probably misread the first step "Hardware components research, analysis of the architecture, and design of the electrical schematics [12600 euro, 30 net days]". Those 30 days is the amount of days of a professional engineer we will be able to pay with the the first 12600 euros we will collect.

Please, read carefully how we will proceed: "We will be able to sign the first contract after reaching the amount of 4000 euros. Then, the campaign will continue without a fixed deadline. Once reached the final goal of 13000 for Phase 1, the work will be completed by ACube and they will produce the electrical circuit design as a result."

@BigD
Ehm, so my passion for the Borg is so evident? Oh, no, shame on me... Plus I am not a native speaker.
Could you please help us rephrasing it so it sounds more appealing for our marketing?
We would welcome a native speaker like you that has good communication skills! Wanna join in?

0. Collect donations to the amount of 12,600.00. [12600 euro, 30 net days];

Perhaps it is like business days, except number of days on the net.

Whatever the odds here, I do wish for an Amiga laptop, and have donated. (yes, I do have Amiga Forever on my pc laptop, but still wish for a native one)

Ah ok! However I donated a small amount of money!

I am spreading the word on Twitter, Facebook and other social media...

@wawa

I think you're all nitpicking here.
I'm not supporting Kalamatee for what he has done, rather for what I hope he does in the future.
And that was just drawing a parallel.

As to being newbies in fundraising, of course they are!
They just want something for themselves that no one has bothered to build yet, so decided to take the initiative.

If it all works out, anyone who is interested benefits.
BUT, if they don't reach their goals...

Look, it should be plain to you all that I want one, and will do what I can to see this through.
More than a few others here have expressed interest in a similar platform.

And since Timothy De Groot has said Hyperion is open to discussing porting OS4 to this platform , you OS4 fanatics (which I, for one am not) might also want to take notice.

ALTHOUGH, the one OS I'm sure will be ported to it is Linux (as a good number of the people involved are primarily interested in those OS').

Anyway, its started, I'm excited that we are doing this. If it gets accomplished, the end product will be too cool.

Assuming he's still around, you could ask feanor what he thinks about this. He might be a valuable source of input.

feanor=Konstantinos Margaritis

It's obvious he was thinking mobile at the end

Yes, my proposals in the past were for desktop boards.
But the arguments from the other in the group won me over on this one.

Portable devices are where everything is going.

I use laptops and my phone these days far more than I do the several desktop system I have around.
I'm typing on a laptop right now.

So, does anyone know how to contact feanor?

I'm sure many AmigaOS4 devs know how.
He ended up working on ffmpeg, iirc and posted on amigans.net.

Sounds good, Raffaele.
You know, the epicenter of this project is is your corner of the globe.

And should OS4.1 ever advance to OS4.2, eight simultaneous threads instead of one (or two or four if the latest AmigaOnes are considered)...

May the Power earthquake from Italy should shake the world of information technology!

And so he should. The one killer machine OS4 people have wanted for ages is a laptop. But not some tiny netbook costing a fortune. A real sized laptop to make the financial investment at least worth while.

Of course the same problem remains. You can get a reasonable laptop these days for a cheap price. Unless it's an Apple. So it needs to compete on power if it will be more expensive. And like a PowerBook G5 reboot.

Yes, likely in ppc64intel mode. Seems to diminish the point of using a PowerPC as opposed to x86 if acts like a PC. But supporting Linux from the onset would be good because the AmigaOne machines have been terrible at supporting it since the X1000. Or booting it rather. As long as they make multi OS support easy in the firmware.

And Linux will provide us with necessary drivers ready to be ported into AmigaOS... Ho! Ho! Ho!
