The only reason to buy one IMHO It can't be to play flight simulators or to do accounting

In the past the A600 was a disasterous misadventure by Commodore producing a computer worse than the A500 when everyone wanted an A1200 for a ridiculous price. Now post-Vampire it is actually desireable.

Most interesting software IMHO is AGA. If you just want to mess with old games fair enough but it get Alien Breed 3D 2: The Killing Grounds running at a good speed for the first time on ANY Amiga makes the A600 valuable if it has a Vampire. It could also play MP3s and be used properly on the Web

New game ports like BOR and Mini Slug are being ported and the Vampire is the reason

Great! The Vampire would help with that!

Other computers are also able to use AmigaWorld but there are some things only the Amiga can do and most of the productive things (and some cooler games/demos) are best done with a Vampire enabled A600 rather than a base spec one. Sad but true.

@jazz79

welcome back it's a great time for Amiga enthusiasts with all the recent developments in both classic and NG!
I recently put my A4000 online and it's great to browse Amiga sites and especially aminet directly from your Amiga
If you didn't know we also have a dropbox/ google drive client which works great, here it is on aminet http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/AmigaCloudHandlers

i liked my a600 as it was. a bit limited but nice compact machine you could do a lot of things with.

if someone doesnt feel like he needs vampire he shoulnt be convinced otherwise. everyone knows his own bias best. ;)

Welcome back. Each to their own but without the Vampire this was the only thing of interest regarding the A600 IMHO.

Hi

Just a quick heads up to all those who have the old rose coloured glasses and have fond memories of their Amiga from long ago but now have a very blurred view of matters, probably cus they use their mobile phone to play games these days.... Here is the thing. The A600 and A1200 does not have a graphics card. What is more tricky is there really isn't much space to put a graphics card. It has graphics capability but nothing like what is provided by modern computer equipment. I read so many times about users going on about how they want to surf the web with their Amiga. Yes you can probably get mail. But modern web browsing needs graphics capability. It also needs a relatively good understanding of setting up an ethernet and configuring your software.

And yet many come on these forums and announce they are back, old user and next thing they want to turn their beloved computer into a mobile phone. Just use the mobile phone. But PLEASE I am begging you..... PLEASE do not destroy a beautiful Amiga just to feed to false quest that is doomed to fail. I dread to think how many Amigas have been destroyed this way.

So place the Amiga, in a safe location, plug in as it was designed and use as it was designed. Expand sensibly without destroying the case or insides. DO NOT keep plugging in and plugging out. Achieve success by simple small steps and enjoy your computer. It is an Amiga... a beautiful thing and should be treasured.

Please look after the Amiga. It is very very important.

TLC. Remember my words cus sometime in the future you may just regret what you did. I certainly will.
