| What is the latest on having wireless internet for the AmigaOne X1000 and X5000? Any special equipment that Amigans are using to date. Any info is appreciated. Thanks |

Coolname.
As evidenced by the lack of responses will tell you, nothing has changed. No WiFi on the board. And no direct support from OS4.1 either.
There are two solutions. A third party supported WiFi PCI card and drivers available here to check out: http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=browse&cat=driver/network
Or getting some type of hardware Ethernet-to-WiFi adapter. Some can be a bit flaky like not always loading up the web interface despite giving an IP address. Or only working in FireFox. And only remembering one SSID and needing reboot what changes are made. I have one like that. |

The internet thing on all Amiga systems is shocking to say the least nowdays. My first experience of the internet was on A1200 with a Pace modem it was great. Now the only Amiga like os that has modernish internet is Morphos my Powerbook has wifi support and the browsers loads a lot of pages but there is still a lot that needs to be done on all systems. Why is everyone so bothered about dual core and memory protection. Having good internet support with network drivers and good browser support would be more usefull to most users. Come on AEON Hyperion less effort on the enhancer pack and more effort on the features that would make a difference. I would like A1222 but with limited internet support I feel it would soon get dusty..... _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

I use a "tp link powerline adapter", plenty of information how it works online, just google it. _________________

Power line is a work around not the solution. People will laugh at OS4.2 if it still is missing wifi and good browser. _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

Yes, this would get a little silly if MorphOS 3.10 is released for the X5000, and OS4 does not offer wireless networking for the same system. |

MorphOS can use Atheros pci-e WIFI networks cards and they work. |

Neil Cafferkey has made those drivers. He has released Prism2 drivers for a Amiga OS3/4, Morph OS and Aros. Atheros drivers are released all NG operating systems.

Since I'm already using wireless under MorphOS, I think that was my point.

And that would render THIS thread irrelevant, eh?Last edited by iggy on 30-Jun-2017 at 07:11 PM.

Is there a driver dev kit to make new wifi chip drivers for his framework? _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

No, just to point out, there is a wifi dirvers for OS4 and they are excatly same in every amigish OS, because same guy has coded them.
@50mm
It works, but it is only 11mb wifi. You could search d-link DWL-G520 (or any aheros based card) from ebay, it uses atheros chipset. It is 54mb card, so much faster. Though buying from Amigakit migh save you from hasle.

11mb...I don't think so, we've been using Neil's driver @ 54mb for some time now. I've even had reports of 108mb cards working.
The Apple Airport cards do run slower, but those are different chips. |

11mb was for 50mm who asked about this card from Amigakit.

Now you can give your AmigaOne / SAM440ep wireless networking capability.
With this 11Mbps PCI card you can add the AmigaOne to a network without laying cables and drilling walls. The AmigaOne will also be able to receive broadband internet access if your location is wireless internet enabled. |

Oh, got you. Yeah, Neil has been an asset.
I'd have hated to be stuck using an Airport card.
It would be nice to see us up using wireless-n though.
Still, things move slowly in NG.

| What I do with my amiga systems - RaspBerry Pi W with usb ethernet dongle, LAN between Amiga and Pi, Pi online over wifi, acting as NAT server for Amiga, and web proxy, and whatever else you may want. You can control the Pi entirely from the Amiga. Last edited by kolla on 01-Jul-2017 at 08:06 PM.

Hello the card arrived today . I installed it and it is working with atheros5000 drivers but it is very slow .
I understand that it was going to be slower than ethernet cat 5 but it is very slow. I am getting very slow network speed with several sites that I usually visit including this one too.
I am talking 3-4 minutes to load very heavy loaded sites.
Am I suppose to do something else beside going to prefs and setup the connection after installation of the Atheros drivers and adding the appropriate line to the network - startup of course ?
I am using a peg II with G4 overclocked to 1.266 Ghz and the machine is very fast for its age and by Amiga standarts.
Please advise . |
