Updater is a powerful new tool found in the latest Enhancer Software v1.3

Now that it has been released for public use, I have added a new tutorial to the Wiki detailing how to download AMIStore purchases as an alternative to using AMIStore.

Tutorial can be found here:

http://wiki.amiga.org/updater

If you have any questions, please ask.

@amigakit

Is this part of a move towards a Reaction based Amistore?

@Rob

We want more cohesion between projects/products. Also give users options to access their AmiSphere account data from a wide range of programs.

The lighter footprint of Updater will also help for the OS3 port.

Hope you have downloaded the new Enhancer Software v1.3 and tried out Updater :)

@amigakit

Not a question, but an error report. a-eon.biz is struggeling with "internal error" for the captcha of the contact form right now, so I report here...

I registered my "Enhancer Software Plus Edition OS4" from the CD purchased in Neuss.

In Updater it is shown as not installed locally after that. (first error)

When I´m doing the download, the download proceeds to the first (!) shown size, but breaks right after finishing the first (!) shown size with a somewhat, uhm, strange report, that the remote download is smaller (!) (as the download size shown at start of the procedure) and hence the "download is corrupted". (second error)

A second try restarts the complete download, which is NOT nice for people with limited (e.g. prepaid, download volume limit) internet access, btw.

Reminds me of the huge HP printer driver downloads, which are triggered EVERY TIME the printer driver repair program is used. It just re-installs the printer driver, which is available locally(!), by downloading it again (!) every time (~160MB per download for 8620 OfficeJet).

Clearly a No-Go for Amiga software IMHO. It is fairly easy to implement functions for downloading things these days, but I think you should concentrate on ROBUST download functions first even if it´s not that easy then.

After the broken download Enhancer is shown as installed locally with the correct version number and status "Installed". (third error, maybe? How come, if the download "failed"?)

@amigakit

The updater tool has a first Login screen.. username password...

The password field does not accept enough characters to fit in my password...
I had to change my password (less characters) to have it accepted by the updater tool.

Something to fix i guess.
