Got bored today and decided to give Lubuntu 12.04 a try on my X1000.
Why 12.04? No systemdRG needed. I'm already using Debian 7.9 for the same reason and there is a group now developing x86 distros without the crap systemdRG complexity.
Anyway, All that is needed is to download a ISO, burn it to a CD then boot the install system with most any kernel. I used vmlinux-3.5.7. You may need a different kernel if you have a much newer graphics card, mine is a HD 6850.
I did the install to a 124 GB partition and still have 112 GB left after installing some of my favorite programs and utilities.
I also installed Ubuntu, but did not like it.
Anybody wanting full instructions just let me know and I'll post the procedure. _________________ Tinkering with computers. |
