For me it look like problem is with monitor/wires in Your house.
If I were You, first I thing I will spend some money on UPS with surge protection, and connect monitor and Amiga X5000 to it.
If there will be still problem with monitor and fans, I will be borrow another monitor from someone.
If it will help I will buy another monitor.

Overheating - You do not need A-eon for buy and use water cooling.

sure? and swapping the coolings system will not mate the infragment of the garancy?
did you know what measure have a cooling system for a P5040? and who is the compatible?

t's very likely that Linux and related software is much more optimized on tlosm's quad-core G5 than the P5020,

can be yes .... but if i build all needed(library and dependencies) for e5500 core you can exclude this.

Nope, you can't. For starters, you've got zero guarantee that setting the e5500 switch generates code as optimal as for the G5. Next, there's a lot more to the machine than the CPU. For all you know the Linux port may still need work before drivers (e.g., for the GPU) can enable highest performance.

Yes, the P5020 has a 4x PCIe v2.0 bus, which should be the equivalent of PCIe v1.1 8x

this is why it have worst performances compared the 8x pcie 1.1 slot of g5 quad ..

Which was known right from the start. However, that performance only relates to things that are PCIe bandwidth bound. It's still more than enough for a lot of tasks/games. There's no need to complain about graphics performance when you're already getting more fps than your monitor can handle...

the X1000

cpu integer are stronger than x1000 and G5 when no altivec instruction are used... this is for sure and is what im say from very beginning ...
but x5000 overall desktop experience is choppy, crappy terrible on linux compared an old 2005 g5 quad using the same distro not optimized ,kernel revision and gpu.
i call it bad performances ram and x5000 cant run more than 2gb/s on P5020 in smp.

You keep repeating your RAM benchmark results even after being repeatedly told those tests are skewed...

Look, we all know you can't expect x86 level price to performance from niche hardware. However, some of your claims were incorrect and your negativity is rather over the top. TIme to take a break and calm down.

what? a radeon hd on x5k has up to four times better performance than p4 on a4k/csppc, or in some cases even worse? i mean a modern pcie graphic card is even being compared to a quarter of century old zorro3 one and doesnt just win hands down? whoa.. im just baffled.

4x better performance... when performing CPU based data transfer. Which, if you knew how PCIe performs wouldn't shock you. I said as much in my post that you selectively quoted from, and even included A1-X1000 results that use DMA to illustrate this.

i use steam fort test the performances of ram and not only me... something confidential i cant share who ... me plus ****** have the same value of the transfer rate same value reported by linux kernel too.
like a P4 of 2001 the 5020 ... better the 5040 but not too much.

I hope for a-eon i will be totally wrong in my reports and issue because if not .... will be a big problem explain to the buyers why me was true.

phoronix gave poor value too.

PS: when a machine become old, how much time it will need to be start useful ? ... it have 2 years soon will be 3... for me a computer of 3 years is old plus it based on a system of 2013 (for apple 5y the device become vintage)

if i wrote all my story making copy and past of my email with a-eon i think peoples will start understand why i have this negativity, but im a sir and something i will not share here. #unicef

by the end one think is sure #nomoreaeoninmyhome

PS: looklike im not the only one not happy post

If I will You I will start with solving problem with monitor/wires in Your house.
UPS with surge protection and monitor change.
Increasing voltage stability, may result in decreasing heating.
Of couser may not, but it is worth to try.

Reference Boards exist for comparison to the X5000 .

I also have a G5 Tower I run MorphOS on, and yes its better at some things, but I knew that. I didn't get this X5000 to compare it to that. I got it so I can run the latest hardware with OS4.1 and its doing a fine job of it.

+1, I've been using my X1000 since 2012 everyday in my mancave and it's by far the fastest and most reliable Amiga in my man cave look forward to every update & appreciate the work involved to keep my favourite OS moving forward

@Acill

I was given an old latop and reinstalled Linux on it. It is a 64-bit 1.8 Ghz dual core with 2GB RAM like my X1000. LOL. I installed Mint 64. Terriible. Firefox always locks up. What sort of company builds a computer with a 64-bit CPU and under 32-bit RAM? Doesn't make sense. Not enough resources. Anyway I got 4GB for it so hope it's better now.

But why would you need to search for PPC compatible sources? Do you have rare requirements for software? I'm afraid that's exactly what you jumped in with an OS4 machine. But, I can run Linux on my A1 XE, most things I look for can be installed, and I rarely see endian issues directly.

With ATI dropping hardware big endian support we are seeing it now. But 32-bit PPC is being dropped for Linux distros. Why isn't old 32-bit i386 also dropped? And only LE PPC 64 supported. So soon enough you should be able to install Linux on your X5000 and it will run like a PC. No endian issues. In ppc64intel mode.

Will you stop banging on about your G5 Quad like it's the second coming I'd much rather a X5000 whatever the bloody benchmarks. I couldn't give a monkey's about Linux and if there is a problem with the X5000's Ram access speed then I'm sure it will be addressed in due course. Your negativity is pointless. The X5000 does exactly what it was designed to; it acts as the fastest OS4.x machine currently available. It's not sold as a Linux box; THAT WOULD BE A WASTE OF MONEY BUY A FREAKING PEECEE IF WANT TO USE THE PENGUIN OS! Ubuntu, Fedora, any Linux distro I'm simply not interested! This is an Amiga forum not a LINUX show and tell

You think it's not worth the money then don't buy it. Solved

Quote:

It's faster, cheaper and more widely available and I don't care very much for you opinion on motherboard design! Get a life.
