Argh... I myself experienced great differences between several QEMU versions/ports on the same hardware: CPU speed was similar, but GFX slowed down some of these. I suspect this is similar case - bad QEMU port for X5000 (or don´t liking X5000 GFX setup for some reason, if you use the same QEMU binary on both computers).

i build the qemu on the machine from the sources. if i use the distro qemu build have the same results ... better on G5

PS: glxgears on same gpu on same distro and same mesa version:

X5000/20 3100.xxx max
X5000/40 3400.xxx max
G5 4100.xxx max

That doesn´t explain our problem. Could you try pure CPU/memory intensive benchmark on both machines (eg. MPlayer WITHOUT audio and video output)?

Anything 3D related will be affected by stronger FPU of G5.

Is the X5000 worth the price - Absolutely I have no regrets in having splashed out the cash, I use it every day, it brings me great joy and happiness.

Are there issues? Perhaps, but name me one system that is completely perfect and without issues. At the end of the day it depends what you want to use it for and how pedantic you want to get, but I am aware of Amiga OS's current limitations and accept them knowing that a) there may be improvements further down the line and b) my purchase of the machine has contributed to the ongoing development of the NG Amiga scene.

Would I recommend it to others? Without hesitation, now that I have all the classic side of things set up with Picasso 96 screenmodes and at a higher system spec, classic software looks fabulous and runs well. Odyssey is a completely different browser on the X5000 compared to having used it on the Sam 460. I finally have a machine which ensures that my PC or my original classic machines never get switched on at home.

Things I am looking forward to? The MorphOS port to complete the multi boot in one box. Libre Office is another thing, maybe if we are lucky we get an updated browser, I'm pretty sure this will come in time.

Any things I am annoyed with? Well the Linux side of things could be better considering I have a Radeon 7750HD graphics card but in reality who is buying an X5000 with the main reason to run Linux as the main OS on it??

im sure of one thing if amigaos was on g5 quad will be much more faster than x5000. sed the mos team dont make mos for the quad for make a comparisons vs x5000.
in any way g5 quad better performance machine is from 2005 and prize 500 usd max... x5000 complete system x5000/20 2350€
quake 3 on x5000/20 linux 119 fps
x5000/40 linux 135 fps
G5 quad linux 280 fps

note same gpu, same linux distro same kernel and same mesa. note the quad was using the 8x slot and not the 16x

Mplayer use altivec on G5... will have the same result of dnet ... 42.000.000 vs 20.000.000 of x5000

I just received my X5000 on the 6th and am very happy with it! I also own a very upgraded 4000T with CSPPC and mediator in it. I can say this X5000 is running circles around that thing.

I also have a G5 Tower I run MorphOS on, and yes its better at some things, but I knew that. I didn't get this X5000 to compare it to that. I got it so I can run the latest hardware with OS4.1 and its doing a fine job of it.

is exactly what was my way of thinking .... for os4 is the best but just because there is nothing better ... if is intention for use x5000 for everyday use like i did with linux is better use the g5... because performances of heavy os like is linux on x5000 are not so good ...

So non-AltiVec result (KOGE scalar) would be nearly exactly the same on both computers.

I was thinking more in line of finding bottlenecks in QEMU emulation, but this would require more refined approach.

Well, G5 FPU is strong, you can´t expect comparable result from e5500.

i know the fpu is near the double in performances compared the x5000.
plus p5020/40 miss some fpu instructions that are emulated.

If I want to run Linux I wont even do it on my G5. I can just go get me a $100 older PC that will be light years better and use a more common CPU. The last thing I want is to go searching for sources that will compile on PPC and have to worry about endian issues and all that crap when I can just get an x86 build and be done with it.

i use g5 for make challenges, how it run in pure 64bit? how it perform compared a newpc? etc etc.
i build the software try to made optimizations ... it is an hobby
i have a macbookpro i7 too. but i can do the same things slowly with the double of time and noisy on g5 quad
the true for me x5000 was a delusion because i was hoping it will put the g5 in pension forever ... but for me will go x5000 in pensions

Great ! It will be nice to read your complaints on the Vampire v4 instead of the X5000.

Do not forget to compare Linux on your X5000 vs Linux on Vampire v4 and Linux on your Game Boy, I'm pretty sure it will help many people.
