Hi All

So somebody asked if I could record a video about the history of the ill fated PCI Amiga project and what was the potential and why it failed.

As this is delving into areas of emotional turmoil on me I need to know if it is something people are actually interested in. It may make you change your minds about the direction the Amiga took and I will tell all about my Checkmate Digital days, HiQ Tower and Newtek story, Siamese System and how I still believe the PCI Amiga would have changed the Amiga's fortunes but sadly did not survive and the mistakes I made and still regret.

If enough people are interested I will record over the coming month.

Steve

@clusteruk

Please do! Looking back at the Amiga 30th year and looking forward, most of the historical interest has been focused on The C= years of Amiga (1984 - 1994). That is only a 3rd of our favorite systems life span. We have a vibrant (if fractured) community that has no parallel. If anyone else knows of any technology or anything really, that has so much activity for such a small group, educate me. Were else do you see projects like AROS, MorphOS, Amiga OS4, and the continuing classic. New HW from A-Eon, Individual, Vampire, etc. I don't see this level of enthusiasm in other communities like Atari or Acorn.

You had a front row seat for so much Amiga history your stories and insights will be a joy to see.

Cheers,
Bill "tekmage" Borsari

I would love to hear it! Its one area I have wanted to learn more about. It seemed like things were going well and just vanished one day.

Yeah, pls proceed, would love to hear about it as well.

Btw, now that you mentioned PCI Amigas, I still have in the back of my mind the possibility of a PCI Vampire edition. Wouldn't that be great? Personally I think thatit would be awesome especially for Amiga NG compatible systems, giving direct access to full amiga software without launching e-uae every now and then :)

@Cool_amigaN

I'll tell you the easy way: you make the Amiga on PCI happen, I buy one.

There's a couple billion suitable PCs out there that could host it and help project-rebirth

The idea would have saved the Amiga.
But you see, it was so visionary that may actually resurrect it.
You may not have failed as you think.
It was all a matter of too far ahead for its time.
It may not make you feel better, of course, but I think the credit for it is yours.

@clusteruk

Sure, I'd love some details, like what the chipset would have looked like, what processor would have been used, etc.

No it be outdated technology. PCI 33Mhz and 66Mhz is outdated, no one use it anymore, it "PCI-Express" people are using now, totally different connector and technology, so this is a stupid idea, today.

Back in 1993 it be great idea, in 1997 they should have been thinking about AGP,
now its just not a good idea in 2017.

Some serious talk about this has been done and the Vampire team has ignored all attempts at contacting those that are interested in doing this for Amiga NG machines. I would love to see this done. It could have some very interesting uses.

Add me to 'Yes, please' list. I'd be really interested to know what went on in those years.

I'll very much look forward to it.
