The 9000 and 9200 are supported because they are much more competent than the 7000 and 7200, and they aren't that expensive. Why would you pay for a Mediator, then use a sub-optimal video card?

I have a Radeon 7000 in my Mediator, now replaced by a Sapphire 9250 PCI Radeon.
The Radeon 7000 worked good on the VGA port connected to a lcd fullhd monitor. The os was OS4.1 FE, the card worked out of the box. Only problem where some glitches when using DVI, but as stated VGA was ok.

The Radeon 9000 Pro is faster than the 9250 but it's pointless to splash out extra for one since even my BPPC was still the bottleneck when I had a Mediator and Voodoo 3. PCI versions of the 9250 are pretty common on Ebay and a also very cheap.
If you're really lucky (i.e. can find one at a reasonable price) then get a Voodoo3 since there is a 68k Warp3D driver for that which might be useful if you get a a Vampire for the A1200 some day.
