@g01df1sh

I tried to verify this story by asking around. I'm told there is no announcement (yet?), those italian sites are blowing this way out of proportion. Neither Retro Games nor Cloanto are "announcing" anything.

@g01df1sh

Yeah...um, this stuff isn't official and its based on a combination of leaks, rumors and speculation.
And I'm not sure Cloanto has the legal standing to offer an Amiga branded computer.

Further, with zero details on what hardware would be used, it leaves me perplexed.
Since an ARM based device, or some other form of emulation (Cloanto's primary market), isn't even slightly attractive to me....

This whole thing justs leave me thinking, hmm...

@g01df1sh

For £300-400 you won't even get the V4 board alone :)

Re price of standalone board.

He also said to me a few days ago when I was speculating on their IRC channel that the standalone was likely to be ~€500 that it would be 100 more than the V2+. I was further speculating that complete systems (case, keyboard, mouse, joystick, PSU, IDE2CF, WB3.x) would start at around ~€600.

I'm not surprised that Cloanto are playing down the Amiga Mini. With Amiga trademark rights being contested and Retro Games Ltd yet to deliver any of their C64 emulators it's far too early to be confirming anything.

@kolla

As I understand things the C64 Mini keyboard isn't functional, you can plug in a USB keyboard though.

p.s. The full size The C64 is supposed to include a working keyboard.

On the subject of The C64 I see that people that backed for the hand held version are instead being offered the Mini and Full Size C64's with some artwork instead of the Handheld C64 (the Handheld will be offered to them to purchase at "a discount" when (if) it's ever made). This is why I would never back an Indiegogo with a flexible goal and no prototype. The console products are very different things to the Handheld and aren't an equivalent substitute. "We believe that we should only promise what we know we can deliver; this is why we feel it necessary to substitute the handheld version with the above set." shame they didn't apply that belief when they chose to run a flexible funding crowd funding scheme. Please bare this behaviour in mind if they do ever run an Amiga Mini crowd funding project. They ran a campaign for two products and raised $100,000 of a $150,000 goal and instead of concentrating on delivering those products they instead developed something different for the retail market. Where did the money for The C64 Mini development come from?

i doubt such device would sell _really_ good. For us Amiga nuts, it would be great of course, but those just wanting to revive a childhood thing a price in that range is too much. Goods about 100 EUR/GBP are a thing for spontaneous purchases. Few ppl must intenstively consider whether they spend such an ammount or not. But 300-400 requires real consideration for many. Make a weaker device in the about 100 range and you have a good chance to actually sell it in real quantities.

@g01df1sh

This rumours is linking to the report of an Amiga Mini in Italian magazines.

For example here:
https://www.tomshw.it/amiga-mini-sogno-diventera-realta-88742

And most of it was discussed on AW.net here:
http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=42142&forum=17#803572

----

This is a typical rumour mill:
A tells a rumour from B who got the news from C that was posted by A before ...
