After watching a couple of youtube videos on what people are doing to Amiga's these days
I thought it was time to dig out my trusty and dusty A1200 and A500, I did have some doubts
as to the batteries in the RAM cards.

Ordered a CF card and IDE adapter before I had even found where all the bits were. Having used
UAE on a raspberry pi I had a rough idea on being able to setup the CF card and transfer it to the
Amiga afterwards.

Luckily though the battery in the A500 500MB card was just starting to show signs of rust
where it is soldered to the battery, The A1200 though still looked immaculate even though
it has not not been used since 1998. Checked the voltage on the CR2032 coin cell and it
still reads 2.93volts lucky or what?

Plugged it in and it worked, well the cursor would not go up and down, only horizontally.
Using the keyboard gave the same response only horizontal movement. Started Googling
and found many questions but not many answers that actually related to the A1200.
Answers were swap the CIA chips (500), Its a fuse (4000)? Even though the question
was about an A1200. The questions were very also also (early 2000's).

Found a joymouse and a portswit (cher) on Aminet that allowed the joystick in port 2 to act
as a mouse and that worked correctly. Tested the continuity on the mouse and found that
pin 3 on the top row not to be connected. (vertical travel). Turned out to be a broken wire.
Sliced about 14" out of the cable and the mouse moves up and down smoothly, but side to
side is a bit erratic. PS2 converter on order, not having a Pic Kit added to the cost of making
my own so purchased a ready build one.

So it appears to be working. Must do something about the yellowing case before i put it back
together. Although it really needs a new case, someone who shall remain nameless (ME)
cut a hole in the back so that a 3.5" hard drive would fit. That and a FX400 quad speed CDROM
killed the original A1200 PSU.
Memory fades on how i managed to power it afterwards, but the A500 and A570 PSU's may
have been used, befor i fitted the A1200 into a desktop case. I do remember the 1GB hard
drive costing £199 (OUCH). AND copying stuff from the CD on the A500 to the A1200 via
a parallel cable and it taking all day and night and possibly more.

When purchasing the bare desktop case i do remember the guy saying its virtually a PC
with an 8MB RAM upgrade the 1GB HD and a 4x CDROM.

Time to dig out the A500 next with its possibly rare A570 CD ROM, I remember inserting
coverdisk CDs and PDCD's and having very little RAM left to do anything else :).

I also have a VIC20 that still works :) Ahhh the hours of Radar Rat Race :)

I had a C64 that someone borrowed and never returned :(
Although i do have a CD that came with lots of games, play the CD on a stereo and a
cable ran to the C64 to load the games, pretty sure it had a cassette also though which
is missing?

Am i supposed to type this much in here? Or was i supposed to say Hi I am Dave and
from the Midlands in the UK.

PS. I am a hoarder :) (maybe the wrong forum for that) :)

So many questions for you all :)

No stock at the moment but hopefully they have more on the way.

I also have a Escom era A1200 case in a box in the attic at the family home.

Good luck with the restoration, doing the same myself now with an A2000!
