The Amiga has supported soft links for a long time. But it seems there is hardly any support for them. Even the Workbench lacking a simple copy as link operation.
I've inserted a disc with soft links. Links are a big feature of an optical disc as even partitions (or volumes) spread across optical media can contain files where the data blocks reside on another volume. I've created some in MakeCD. However, using the OS4 CDFS, not even soft links within one optical volume are supported. They aren't even expanded into directories. Just blank files.
Is it possible to create a CD image with working soft links on OS4? I recreated some links in my RAM disk and created a file list for MakeCD. The result didn't create a working image with the soft links.
I'm also looking into FryingPan and AmiDVD. But I need to control the process and choose what files to put in. As well as specify boot block code. Can they do that? I didn't see a way too.
Should I just give up and use Linux? I know we have mkisofs to do it by hand, but I also have to fiddle on the OS4 side to recreate links. Where as Linux has native support for soft links from optical media.
