@kamelit0

I buy when I see it for sale on Amigakit. Until then the way progress has been so far and lack of info from Amiwest it could still be Amiga weeks away. We all know how long Amiga weeks are lol

@kamelit0

It depends on what one gets for their €400 -- is this a complete system, or just the motherboard, and does it come with an AmigaOS license?

I want one, even if the FPU performance is not up to what it should be. The sober side of my mind thinks that this may be the last Amiga, and I don't want to miss out on that.

@bison

it is only the board, we don't even know if the OS will be included at this point.
If I got it right Trevor said it may subsidized it.

It will be I guess in the range of the of the SAM 460.

You'd hope not, since it would be a shame to go out with a whimper.

And I'm pretty sure Trevor said Matt would not take pre-orders on anything.

Considering the past, that's probably a good policy.

A1222 = A500 we need a baby Amiga to get into more homes just like the A500 did. I will be buying one for sure support it or watch the Amiga developement dry up.

@g01df1sh

Hmm...I still have my A2000.
But, I can see the comparison.
But after the A500, we need the equivalent of an A1200 and an A4000.

So this can't be the end of the road.

Amiga will never die but im not sure how long Trevor and Hyperion will invest time and money into it. How many A1222 are waiting at Aeon for the OS ? Hope they sell out

@Beans

Sam460 aka A1-500
tabor aka A1222
X1000
X5000

so you can see the A1222 is set to be low end entry AmigaNG (ala A500)

Just to get good deal one needs 50,000 units.

Even sony sold at LOSS with its consoles - just to make money from selling software & games.

Right now - Amiga needs a Game developer suite or a 2D game engine that is portable across all Amiga systems - OS4,OS3,MorphOS,AROS.

Maybe written in javascript - with C bindings for Javascript.

Use Javascript to C Transpiler would create the C code to compile.
This way we can have plugins, game assets, logic plugins etc 'just work'

https://github.com/andrei-markeev/ts2c

Like openbor, but to create platform games and puzzle games.

@asymetrix

there are plenty of game engines out there, partly commercial, partly open source. The problem is to support any amiga platform lots of time would need to be invested and nobody is willing to do that. That is difficult to overcome except someone would invest a lot of money in the platform

I think Trevor did say that the A1222 would include an OS4.1 licence as part of the estimated price of 400 Euros. May or may not include a case. The OS is lacking some drivers at this point but seemed to be reasonably stable & responsive.

I'll pre-order from Amiga on the Lake if they have a pre-order for it. I'll also only pre-order if it's a "Complete" system - Case, motherboard, OS, etc, etc.

Probably going to pre-order since that seems to be the only reliable way to get hold of NG Amigas (missed out on the SAM boards, because once I was ready to purchase, they had sold out everywhere).

Not looking to do anything "serious" with it, just mess around with an alternative OS. So the X5000 is out of the question. The Tabor is still a bit pricey, but I've already got SO-DIMMs, SSD's and probably a Radeon card or two laying around, so I just need the board and a suitable case. Compared to mass-market boards like the RPI, Tinker Board etc., it's a lot more expensive, but it's not that far off from something like the FPGA Arcade or MIST (€299 / €199) or a decent SFF PC for example.

@asymetrix

That's typical practice and always has been.
Console manufacturers have *always* been sold at a loss, at least initially. Further runs and different models usually happen once the costs can be met (and they often make a small profit too) via cost reductions in manufacturing and so on, but it's the software that makes them money via license fees.

Also, we already have cross (amiga) platform "engines" via c, and hollywood, etc.
Anything more general or specific just leads to generic, same feeling software.

Not all manufacturers relied on software licensing. The CD32 software didn't and was hence a lot cheaper than Nintendo and Sega games.

1000 Tabor boards have been produced so I don't think they'll all be sold before you get a chance to put your money down. Trevor also said that Matthew isn't in favour of taking pre-orders so it's unlikely that such a scheme will be put in place.

I thought that there was a small royalty of a few dollars per title involved.

I see. However I will still hit that Order button as soon as it becomes available, even if that means no time to read user reviews/impressions first. I got burned with the SAM board and have been waiting for affordable(-ish) AmigaOS 4 hardware since then. With a lower price point, availability might still be a concern, but on the plus side, it might bring in some new users who aren't hardcore Amiga fans, but just think of it as a fun thing to mess around with.
