Zero interest call me when they make something that has something to do with Commodore or Amiga... _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

If it has a new Android version and if we would knew about updates, it could be worth the money.
But I could not find out what Android version they are using.
If it comes to Low cost Android phones I would suggest something from Nokia because they deliver OS updates. |

Would rather support Sailfish OS as a valid third way. The C= branding on a generic Android phone is an insult to the heritage of the C64 / Amiga. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

According to the user-manual, it should ship with Android 5.1. I lost track with all the versions of Android but I believe that's not a really recent version.
If Commodore 'branded' phone is something one is looking for, I think it would be a better plan to simply buy the best specced Android phone your money can buy and than have a custom Commodore branded back-cover printed in 3D.

Android 8.1.0 was released in late August. Android 5.0 came with my phone, which is about 2 years old, and 5.0 was already over one year old then.
Added in edit: here's a better link to the versions.Last edited by simplex on 08-Nov-2017 at 01:50 AM.

Thought I smelled something . If I remember correctly, this summer I got a bargain Android-box for the TV and that's running Android 6, so I should have known the 5.1 is even older. Guess it's a good phone to run away from.

For what it's worth, Android 5 works great on my phone. There are many, many phones with earlier versions still in use, possibly more than half of all Android phones out there are at version 5 or earlier. Commodore might even have an update to a more recent version available; it's just that 5.1 is what they loaded onto that phone, and no one's going to unpack a bunch of product just to load new firmware onto it. I've owned several cameras, for instance, that came with an early firmware when I bought them, but I was able to upgrade them immediately past several versions.
But, yeah, my reseller (BLU phones) didn't upgrade the OS beyond an occasional security update (or something) that still leaves me at 5.0. I don't mind because 5.0 works fine for the most part. _________________ I've decided to follow an awful lot of people I respect and leave AmigaWorld. Not long ago I stated that I won't get a new phone soon due to the fact that Windows Phone seems to be no longer actively developed. I stand with that as the Lumia 950XL I have does what it has to. So, your statement is valid as well. However, people should keep in mind that maybe not all of the latest apps will run on it. That is not neccesary an issue now but how about in a year's time? Don't know. What did alarm me a bit was the question in Commodore's FAQ about what would happen to the waranty if an end-user would root the phone. Such questions rise to the surface for a reason.
Well, in the end... everyone should use what he/she likes. _________________ Back home... |

I haven't looked at it, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were the standard "screw you, luser" response that pretty much all manufacturers and/or resellers supply, and not without reason.
I agree with the rest of what you say, with one exception: I do worry about security issues on a phone that doesn't receive further updates._________________ I've decided to follow an awful lot of people I respect and leave AmigaWorld. You guys tried to steal the Commodore mark, but your registration failed after C= Corp intervened last autumn.
Care to explain how the hell you're still distributing products using that mark? |
